About me
Hello, I’m James,
I wonder how you are. Often people are experiencing anxiety, depression, or low self esteem, often they have coping mechanisms they want to change. Perhaps you have a clear idea of what you want to talk about but perhaps not, there isn't always an clear starting point. However you show up is OK with me.
My Integrative approach is grounded in the Person Centred Approach, an understanding that all humans have an innate capacity for navigating our way in life but sometimes some extra time and the right conditions are helpful for it to flourish. It's my aim to offer you these conditions, and, as it is appropriate for you, occasional information or ideas to supplement the process.
The first session is generally about getting to know each other and seeing if I am the right therapist for you. I know from personal experience that starting counselling can feel daunting. Shall we talk and see where we go from there?
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I have worked as a therapist with organisations supporting people who have suffered sexual and domestic abuse, and people struggling with substance dependency. I have felt what a difference counselling can make in my own life when I needed the assistance of someone outside my usual circle.
Other areas I have particular experience with are: relationship and marital difficulties and breakdown, religious or spiritual trauma and/or abuse, faith shift or deconstruction, struggles with creativity, meaning and purpose, psychosis and manic episodes.
Prior to becoming a therapist my work has included, amongst other things, being a postman, an adult support assistant, and working in a cafe.
