About me

Counselling gives you an opportunity to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively and to help you improve things. Sometimes, it is difficult to say what is on your mind to others around you, and counselling support gives you the opportunity to talk in confidence to someone who is anonymous and separate from your everyday life.

I am able to offer you a safe, confidential place to talk about your life and anything that might cause you confusion, pain, discomfort, anxiety, sleeplessness or low mood.

I have a warm broad-minded, friendly empathetic style, and welcome clients from a diverse range of backgrounds.

I grew up in Beverley, and still have strong family ties to the area, despite having lived in London and Sydney for most of my adult life.

I run my therapy practice from home and the therapeutic space I offer is a warm, comfortable private setting. I offer short- and long-term humanistic counselling with a solution focussed approach.

I live only a few minutes' walk from the town centre towards the Westwood. Up to 2 hours free parking is available on the street outside the practice.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Masters Degree in Counselling and Applied Psychotherapy, and a Foundation Certificate in Systemic Family Therapy (AFT accredited).  Prior to that I worked for a chain of International English Language Schools, both in the UK and abroad, supporting young people in the roles I performed over twenty years.

Since becoming a fully-qualified counsellor therapist in 2011, I have helped clients with a number of problems, such as anger management, relationship issues, addictions, stress, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem and depression, as well as issues surrounding sexuality, gender identity, sexual health, and sexual and emotional abuse.

I also have experience working with mental health issues, and have counselled clients suffering from borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, and Asperger's syndrome sufferers, as well as those struggling in relationships with loved ones or work colleagues who suffer from a lack of empathy for others, or have a bullying, narcissistic or sociopathic personality style.

I have also worked with young persons, aged 13 to 19 years, over the last seven years, suffering from a range of emotional problems, including depression, anxiety, bereavement and loss, low self esteem, past trauma and and sexual orientation and sexual identity issues.

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor - Membership Number 721683

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
