About me

Hi, I’m Gill! I’m a qualified, fully insured counsellor and psychotherapist and I work with people who are feeling stuck and want to feel better. I work with clients across the UK, online via video (Zoom), over the telephone and in person, from my practice based in Shipley. I’m based in Baildon, Shipley, BD17, which is easily accessible if you are based in Bradford, Guiseley, Menston, Ilkley and the surrounding area.

We all have those times in our life when things get on top of us; when we feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed and unable to cope. We can feel stuck, trapped and that there’s no way forward. Perhaps work and the daily struggles of life are dragging you down? You’re feeling frazzled, stressed and anxious and can’t see a way out? Any one of these can take its toll on your self-confidence, we lose our mojo and everyday life just feels like an uphill struggle.

Many people have also noticed the affect that COVID-19 has had on their mental wellbeing? We’ve all had so much change to deal with and of course there’s the fear and anxiety that comes with living through a global pandemic. You might be juggling home and work commitments, which is affecting your physical and mental wellbeing not to mention your relationships.

These are just some of the situations where I can give you that much needed time and space to get a fresh perspective on what’s troubling and help you to find new ways of dealing with whatever life’s throwing at you right now. As a counsellor I like to adapt my approach to suit the particular needs of each client. Whether that’s being a compassionate, listening ear and providing a safe space for you to talk about your issues; or using more creative methods for exploring your thoughts and emotions so that you can find your own solutions to whatever it is that's keeping you stuck.

What's important to me is that we work at a pace and in a way that best suits you and your needs in the moment. I'll work with you to help you decide what feels like the best approach for you.

I appreciate beginning counselling and finding the right therapist can be nerve wracking and daunting. You can get in touch via email, text or phone for further information and we can have an initial chat so that you can decide if I’m the right fit for you.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at my profile. Please feel free to have a look at my website and get in touch if you'd like to find out more.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the Leeds Beckett University where I gained a Post Graduate Diploma Counselling & Psychotherapy. I am also a qualified coach, having completed my Post Graduate Diploma Coaching Psychotherapy some years ago.

Working in the corporate sector for the last 20 years as a personal and executive coach, I've helped lots of frazzled, stressed professionals & individuals find the resilience & skills needed to make mindset changes that stick.

In the last two years I have worked for a local charity providing general and bereavement counselling, and as a result have experience of a wide range of client issues.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and have full professional indemnity insurance. I receive regular supervision and ensure I undertake regular additional training to maintain the ethical standard of my work.

I have also completed a course in the “Therapeutic use of Mindfulness” with the British Mindfulness Institute, so I’m qualified to offer mindfulness based techniques to help with issues such as anxiety, stress and depression.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
