About me

Welcome to my profile and counselling practice.

I'm Faye and I am a qualified therapist based online and in Burford in West Oxfordshire.

I work with people who have experienced childhood trauma and neglect.  Childhood trauma is a wide area and I work with many forms of trauma, including narcissistic parenting, emotional and physical neglect, and child sex abuse. I also work with trauma in adulthood too, and help people understand the impacts of trauma along with how we recover from it.

You may have found my profile if you are finding life very difficult right now. Perhaps you are feeling trapped and everything feels very overwhelming and anxiety provoking. Maybe you are frightened by the thought of your future, or struggling to make sense of your past. Maybe you just don't know how you are feeling.

I can offer you the empathy, emotional support and secure space you need to help you through your struggle and personal exploration.

My work is in depth and focuses on helping you understand yourself and why you feel the way that you do. You will learn about how trauma has affected your life, and how you can move forwards into a healthier way of being.

You may come with a particular focus or during a life crisis. Alternatively, you might want to use our sessions to reflect, explore and deepen your understanding of yourself. My approach to trauma encompasses all reasons to start therapy.

I work both long term and short term with people, and can also offer multiple sessions per week for people who are particularly struggling or are looking for a more intensive therapy experience. I work extensively with people who have experienced sex abuse both inside and outside of the family home, or within organisations.

If this is your first time seeking therapy or you are a therapist in training, we might also be a good match.

My personal approach is focused on uncovering and exploring unconscious patterns of behaviours and emotions that influence our present actions, thoughts and relationships. When we learn about the origins of our behaviour, we increase our self awareness and so put ourselves in a better position to create long-lasting change and growth.

I will work alongside you to establish a deeply human and unique relationship that is based on honesty, intimacy and a genuine interest in you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained both academically and clinically at the organisation Gloucestershire Counselling Service which is a service accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Society. Alongside my work as a therapist, I worked as a Psychodynamic Assessor for GCS before setting up my own practice. My core training is in psychodynamic work and I hold a Diploma in this. I am a Registered Member of the BACP (Registration Number 386336). Previous to training at GCS, I studied at the University of Warwick.

I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (Individual), and was a recent attendee at the international Masters Series trauma conference at the University of Oxford.

I have additional training and certification in:

  • Working with addiction and compulsive behaviours (including substance addiction and sexual addiction)
  • Child sex abuse
  • Self harm and suicidal ideation
  • Complex PTSD
  • Autism with The Autistic Advocate
  • Childhood neglect
  • Narcissism
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences and Maltreatment

I have a certificate in Working with Young People, and have workshopped with The Play Zone which uses polyvagal theory to help people learn their optimal performance zone.

I'm undertaking a research based Masters in neuroscience and brain development in 2024.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
