About me
Taking the first steps together....are you ready to talk?
Hello, I'm Liz a counsellor based in Whitstable, Kent.
Starting therapy can feel daunting. You might be overwhelmed, anxious, feeling low, or simply trying to keep everything together. Reaching out isn’t always easy—and that’s understood. You’ll be met exactly where you are, without pressure or expectation.
My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and grounded in genuine human connection. I offer a supportive and relational space where you will be met with kindness, acceptance and understanding for who you are and what you are experiencing.
I work integratively, which means our sessions are shaped around you rather than a fixed method. I bring curiosity, compassion, and, where it feels helpful, may challenge you gently —always guided by what matters most to you.
People come to therapy for many reasons. You might be dealing with anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm, or difficulties in relationships. You might be exploring your identity, or just needing space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with yourself.
Therapy isn't only for times of crisis, and you don't need to be at breaking point to seek support. You're not broken and no issue is too small to discuss. If it's affecting you, it's worth talking about.
My aim is to empower and support you in exploring and making sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences, helping to uncover insights and find solutions that feel right for you, moving at your pace. There are no expectations to starting therapy and you aren't supposed to have everything figured out, just an eagerness to begin.
What I offer:
I offer counselling that is flexible and accessible, tailored to your individual needs.
- In-person sessions in my designated and comfortable therapy space- a log cabin in my garden
- Online therapy sessions via Microsoft Teams
- Telephone sessions
- Walking therapy sessions along the beautiful Kentish coastline between Whitstable and Herne Bay
The Counselling process
- Please email me to get in touch if you have any questions at all about how I work, queries about what I offer, or to book a free initial appointment. I look forward to hearing from you.
- Once I hear from you, we will arrange a free 20 minute initial consultation telephone call. This will give us a chance to talk about what is bringing you to counselling and for you to ask me any questions or queries you may have about how I work and what I can offer. It gives you a chance to see if we might work together and be a good fit.
- (60 mins) Introductory Assessment appointment- Our first session will be slightly longer than a normal counselling session. It will be about getting to know each other. I'll explain more about the counselling process, you'll have space to share what brings you to counselling in depth, and I'll ask questions about your life, relationships and experiences, and together we'll begin to understand your situation and identify areas we might focus on. There's absolutely no pressure to continue if you feel we are not a good fit.
- Regular (50 mins) Counselling sessions-Therapy can be short-term (six weeks or more) or open-ended. Directed by you and your needs.
My private practice is called Coastal Counselling Whitstable.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
