About me

I am a qualified Counselling Psychologist offering therapy for older adolescents and adults. I am trained to a Doctoral level, which means that I provide evidence-based therapy using different therapeutic models, and have several years of supervised training across different healthcare sectors.

My approach:

I work integratively, using a range of therapeutic models such as Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Relational Therapy to find the best way to support you. I focus on building a warm and trusting relationship, in the hope of being able to look at your past together, as this may give us some insight into how you are feeling today.

I am also interested in making sense of intersectionality, which typically involves understanding multifaceted identity structures (i.e., race, sex, gender, religion, economic status, and education), and how this impacts your experience of the world, the relationships you have, and your self-esteem.

My experience:

I have worked in the public health sector for several years, including primary care, secondary care and specialist hospital environments. I have worked extensively with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, chronic health difficulties, low self-esteem, trauma, and neurodiversity-related challenges.

I have a passion for working with young people and their families and have over 5 years of experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in London; I currently work in a Neurodevelopmental Team in CAMHS, where I assess, diagnose, and support young people with Autism and ADHD.

I also have experience working in a specialist psycho-oncology (cancer) service in the NHS; in these systems, it was often the case that distress was pathologised and perpetuated in the interactions clients had with healthcare staff and the communication between colleagues. As such, my work aimed to focus on facilitating a safe, contained, and compassionate therapeutic relationship, trusting the client’s potential and their unfolding of the human experience, throughout the different stages of cancer treatment, ultimately giving them autonomy over their cancer story.

Thank you for spending your time reading about me. Whether you are here for a specific difficulty or a general feeling of “something is not right/feels off”, I seek to facilitate connection and empowerment to help you generate richer meaning in life, using the skills and values that you already hold.

I look forward to meeting you.

Denise
