About me

My Approach

I'm an Integrative Psychotherapist offering a warm, friendly and calming space to facilitate a journey of self-discovery during which you can develop an understanding of how to cope with the prevailing challenges in your life, understand and regulate your emotions and work-through the impact of past-trauma.

Initially, talking therapy is a way to explore and understand how past experiences relate to present day issues in life and provides a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how to cope and to improve overall mental health in meaningful ways that make a difference to your life.  It also provides the space away from day-to-day life to reflect on our historical and present patterns of behaviour and coping mechanisms and to think about relationships with others and the way we react to and view the world around us. Therapy also helps to provide insight into recurring patterns and situations and understand the reasons for them and how to overcome these challenges and create a different outcome.

The process of talking therapy can be very cathartic and helps to alleviate distress and past trauma and has a therapeutic effect, as words are used to communicate and express our views, feelings, and emotions.

My approach to therapy is Integrative and includes a relational Psycho-dynamic approach in which the dynamics of the unconscious mind are used to help you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself whilst creating freedom from past trauma, repressed emotion, to gain control over unwanted patterns of thought and behaviour and improve the quality of your relationships with others.

  • Are you faced with repeated challenges and in need of a space to explore these?
  • Do you suffer with Anxiety and would like to understand the reasons why and how to overcome this?
  • Have you suffered with repeated periods in life where you have experienced low mood, Depression, or a lack of enthusiasm towards life?
  • Do you have Alcohol or Drug (s) dependency and would like to go through a program of therapy to resolve the underlying issues and gain control of your life?
  • Have you suffered with the effects of Trauma and would like to resolve the impact of these?
  • Do you experience Anger and Frustration that is having an impact on your relationships with loved-ones or work situations?
  • Did you go through adversity during Childhood and Adolescence that you would like to explore the impact of?
  • Would you like to explore your relationships with Family Members or Friends and learn how to manage these challenges in different ways?

As therapy progresses and you become aware of the impact of past experiences and the adaptations, patterns of thought and behaviour associated with these it is possible to ‘work-through’ these in a meaningful way and create change in your life.  As these patterns are work-through and resolved each person’s facility of choice tends to increase as they realise the previous motives behind their choices and actions.  This enables people to take control and shape their life as they would like it be without past patterns getting in the way so that a greater sense of satisfaction and fulfillment can be achieved and work towards a meaningful and joyful life.

I also integrate an Embodied approach to therapy which links the mind and mood to the physical body which creates a greater understanding and connection to feelings and emotions using guided self-observation techniques, relaxation and breathwork.  Using self- observation techniques and connecting how an experience feels when spoken about in therapy is a key part of understanding the relationship between mind and body.  This facilitates the healing and release of past- trauma which can sometimes be the source of physical pain, in a gentle way whilst talking-through the impact of past experiences.

My aim is to help you develop greater self-awareness, self-autonomy, greater choice and freedom so that you have the necessary personal power and control of the direction of your life and can become the person that you want to be.

Multi-Cultural and Diversity

Within my approach to therapy, I work multi-culturally with people from all walks of life and understand the differing challenges we all face that relate to diversity, identity and integration.  I work with an understanding of historical and cultural context with knowledge of how these issues can affect the mental health of people who find it hard to fit in, whichever heritage and walk of your life you come from.  The opportunity to talk through and resolve issues of identity can be a very powerful and liberating experience helping people to feel comfortable in who they are.

Discovery Call

As it can be a daunting task to engage and find a therapist it is important that you feel comfortable with the person that you choose to work with.  To give you an opportunity to answer any initial questions you may have and to gain a sense of how therapy can help you I offer a FREE 30 minute Telephone Conversation and personal introduction.

Introductory Session

If you would like to proceed beyond the initial call, I offer a 75-minute introductory session to establish a basis for working together and to go through the significant events in your life, mental health history and family history, with further exploration into your reasons for seeking therapy and your personal therapy-goals.

Weekly Sessions

I subsequently offer weekly 50-minute Psychotherapy Sessions in most instances with greater frequency for those that wish to engage in therapy in a more focused manner.  Unfortunately, I do not offer sessions on a basis of less than weekly frequency.  Sessions are offered on an open-ended basis with regular reviews of the direction and progress of therapy so that you can decide how long you wish to engage with the process.  Sessions are offered either in person from my practice in Epsom and Ewell or online via video call.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
