About me

Welcome,

My name is Catherine, and I'm a BACP-registered integrative therapist whose practice is based in London, UK.

If you're a UK-based adult (18+) seeking individual therapy either online or in person, you might like to read on for more information.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

There are many reasons people arrive in therapy. These range from a vague sense therapy might help us with something we can't quite put our finger on, through to a clear concern or aim.

Whatever has led you to consider therapy, I appreciate it might feel daunting and unusually vulnerable to find a therapist - someone you can imagine speaking openly with.

In my experience, a quick conversation can be a good way to get an initial sense of one another. If this appeals to you, you're welcome to schedule a free, no obligation call. To do this, you can:

  • Email me directly here: catherine@catherinemarshall.co.uk
  • Book an available time via Counselling Directory.

What can I expect from sessions with you?

Sessions will be unique, guided by what you and I notice. What I notice and reflect back to you will be informed by a range of modalities:

From transactional analysis, neuroscience, person-centred approaches, Buddhism, disability justice, and somatics - to name just a few.

During sessions, I might invite you to experiment with different ways of exploring and integrating your experience: through art, breath, metaphor, movement. These invitations will always be optional.

Over time, we'll build awareness of what feels therapeutic for you.

What will our first session look like?

In your first full session, I'll ask you some questions and take notes to build an initial picture of you in the context of your life.

You'll also have the opportunity to ask me questions, and we'll discuss what you might hope for or expect from therapy.

After that first session, we'll each have the chance to reflect again on whether I could offer you appropriate therapeutic support.

If both of us decide to continue, I'll send you a short contract to read and sign.

We'll typically continue to meet weekly on an open-ended basis - with no minimum or maximum number of sessions, and no fixed notice period.

What happens when I decide I don't want to continue sessions anymore?

If at any point you decide I'm not the right therapist for you (or that now isn't the right time for therapy), simply let me know in session.

This way, we can prioritise working out together what a therapeutically safe, "good enough" ending will look like for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I chose to train as a relational integrative therapist after benefiting deeply from my own first-hand experience as a client.

My training to date has taken place at the Minster Centre, where:

  • I hold a BACP-accredited Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
  • I am in the final stages of working towards a UKCP-accredited MA in Integrative Psychotherapy.

I am a registered member of the BACP, and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework. I undertake weekly clinical supervision, personal therapy, and CPD to ensure my practice is robust and meets high quality standards.

Alongside continuing professional education and work in private practice, I volunteer as a counsellor/therapist for two charities.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

For some of us, our ability to access and/or make equitable use of therapy is dependent on specific adjustments being made. A few examples of person-specific adjustments include:

  • Agreeing to meet at a reduced or low cost
  • Meeting for more or less time than the ‘typical’ 50 minutes per session
  • Agreeing to a flexible cancellation/rescheduling policy

If you have access needs, please let me know over email. I’ll offer you a free, no obligation discussion so you can get a sense of me, ask questions, and discuss your access needs.

If, after speaking, we each feel it would be possible to meet for a first session, I'll draft a bespoke contract to reflect any agreed adjustments.

I’ll send you a copy of your bespoke contract before you commit to a first session, so you can check that our proposed way of working meets your needs.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I'll happily explore access needs with you before you commit to therapy. Gender neutral W.C.s are available in all locations. Queen's Park premises has wheelchair access, but no station lifts. I'm exploring London Bridge / King's Cross premises.
