About me
A very warm welcome to my profile. My name is Basma, a Counselling Psychologist specialising in relational and childhood trauma. I’ve worked in both the NHS and third-sector organisations, and I have experience supporting people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, low self-esteem, and difficulties surrounding one's identity.
I work integratively, drawing on evidence-based approaches such as Schema Therapy and CBT. This allows me to tailor therapy in a way that prioritises your individual needs and therapeutic goals. The first few sessions would usually involve developing a clearer understanding of your difficulties, how they developed, and what maintains them. Having this understanding offers an opportunity to reframe the narrative you may hold about your difficulties in a more objective and compassionate way. This creates space to look at healthier ways you can navigate and overcome these difficulties, which typically forms the later part of therapy. Through this work, my aim is to help you feel empowered to find a meaningful way forward that is grounded in your identity, values, and goals.
I understand that therapy can be daunting. Having to share parts of yourself with another may go against what most of us do to protect ourselves from being judged, hurt, and rejected. My approach is therefore grounded in the therapeutic relationship, to provide an environment that feels safe, containing, and supportive; one where you can give voice to parts of your experience that haven’t always had space to be acknowledged.

Training, qualifications & experience
I completed my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology in 2021 and have been practising as a Psychologist since 2018. My interest is in working with individuals whose sense of self, relationships, and view of the world has been significantly impacted due to difficult life experiences, and who are consequently struggling to navigate their world. I previously worked for a mental health charity for individuals who have experienced childhood abuse. I also worked in the NHS as part of a multidisciplinary team providing therapy for individuals who have experienced complex trauma. At present, I work in private practice.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
