About me

Who am I? How do I work?

Hello, my name is Andrew and I am a qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist based in South West London. Although specialising in anxiety and depression, I work with a wide range of client needs. Working to your agenda and at your pace, I offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for us to begin your journey of self-exploration and healing.

You are a unique individual. Taking this as a starting point, as an integrative counsellor I will look to draw on a range of different therapeutic approaches in order to deliver a service that is tailored to your uniqueness. The integrative approach that I use incorporates techniques such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), person-centred therapy, and psychodynamic attachment theory.

You have made a decision to attend therapy - what happens next?

Having taken the courageous decision to reach out for therapy, for those individuals who have never experienced therapy before I can understand it might be a little unsettling to take that first step into the unknown. Please be assured that as the client you will be placed at the centre of the process at all times.

The first step would be for us to have an initial 30-minute Zoom or phone call for you to decide if I offer the right kind of therapy for you. If you feel that we might be a good fit we can then arrange a suitable time and day for a full therapy session. The initial meeting is an extremely important one. The quality of the relationship between client and therapist is a vital component in the client’s journey of healing. The initial meeting will give us a chance to not only discuss what has brought you to therapy at this point in your life but also allow us to form a sense of whether we can work effectively together.

There is no obligation to commit to therapy in the first session. If after the first session you feel you would like to continue your therapy with me, we can then discuss a suitable day and time which will become your regular weekly appointment.

Training, qualifications & experience

Prior to beginning my career in counselling, I spent twenty years working within the financial services industry. Over this period I gained first-hand experience of how the workplace can both positively and negatively impact self-image, self-confidence and general well-being. I can relate to how the internal and external pressures of professional and personal life can directly impact one’s mental health and self-worth.

Graduating from University with a degree in Behavioural Sciences (BSc Hons) I have gone on to complete a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling as well as certificates in both counselling studies and counselling skills. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
