About me

Life can really be shit sometimes, right?

Life's challenges can be unexpected, overwhelming and distressing.  My primary focus is to create a supportive therapeutic relationship with you – built on trust, empathy, and respect.

Therapy is a safe and confidential space, where you can explore your experiences, thoughts, and emotions openly and honestly. Together, we'll work towards developing new coping skills, gaining deeper self-awareness, and achieving a greater sense of well-being.  A long the way there may be tears, laughter, a bit of swearing and more.

There is a myth that you have to be be at your lowest ebb to get therapy, but that isn't true.  I reckon most people would benefit from therapy to help manage the messiness and challenges of being a human.

The most important part of therapy is your unique relationship with your therapist, so it is crucial to talk to a few therapists to get a feel for who is out there.  You might not know what you are looking for, but when you speak with a therapist that gets it you will know.  Get in contact if you want a free 30 min chat, with no obligation, to see if I am right for you.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Counsellor. I specialise in Transactional Analysis therapy, which is a therapy that talks about everyone having a parent, adult and child inside themselves.  Its a great theory and my clients have found it really useful in understanding themselves!

  • Psychotherapeutic Counsellor Level 6 (2023) from the Ellesmere Centre, Hull
  • Foundation Certificate in Transactional Analysis (2021) from the Ellesmere Centre, Hull
  • 2:1 Philosophy Degree (2006) from the University of Sheffield

Previous to my therapy training I worked in the third sector supporting adults with disabilities and people who were at risk of homelessness. In these supporting roles, I felt that the practical support I was trained to give helped people with surface level changes but not the deeper issues they struggled with. This experience combined with my own experience of personal therapy made me passionate about the power of therapy. I am a big believer in the healing properties of nature and embrace working outdoors with clients.

Further information

Therapy isn't really like in the movies. It's a two way, active and creative process. When there are times where words just don’t cut it, therapy can involve scribbling on flip charts, practising breathing techniques and using playdough, stones or buttons to express and understand. Sometimes it will be about being quiet and other times there might be laughter. It can be outdoors, indoors or over the internet!

The most important part of therapy is the relationship between you and I.  My years of experience have helped build resilience, openness and empathy towards people going through life’s challenges, no matter how big or small you may find them to be.
