Psychotherapist & Couple Counsellor (MBACP)

About me

Hello, I’m Allison, a Psychotherapist and Couple Counsellor (MBACP) with over 20 years’ experience supporting individuals and couples through life’s challenges.

You may be reading this because something in your life or relationship feels difficult right now. Perhaps you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck or disconnected from yourself or others. You may be struggling with a relationship, facing a difficult life transition, experiencing a loss, or simply a growing sense that things cannot continue as they are.

Sometimes the difficulties that bring us to therapy seem to come out of nowhere. At other times, you may notice yourself facing the same struggles repeatedly, finding yourself caught in patterns that you don’t fully understand but would like to change.

Therapy offers an opportunity to slow things down and look beneath the surface. Together, we can explore not only what is happening in your life, but also the experiences, relationships and beliefs that may be shaping the way you respond to it.

I offer a warm and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what is happening for you. My role is not to tell you what to do or provide quick answers. Instead, I will work with you to help you better understand yourself, your relationships, and the choices available to you.

In addition to individual therapy, I have a particular interest in relationship counselling. Relationships can be one of the greatest sources of connection and fulfilment in our lives, but they can also be a source of pain, conflict and misunderstanding. Whether you are struggling with communication, trust, emotional distance, recurring arguments or significant life decisions, couples counselling can help you understand what may be happening beneath the patterns that keep you stuck.

My approach is rooted in person-centred therapy and informed by attachment theory, relationship dynamics, and cognitive behavioural approaches. I am interested in how our early experiences shape the way we relate to ourselves and others, and how developing greater self-awareness can create meaningful change.

Whatever has brought you here, therapy can provide a space to feel heard, gain perspective, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships.

If you would like to arrange an appointment or have any questions about how I work, please get in touch. We can discuss your needs and arrange an initial session.

Sessions are available in person, by telephone or online.

Training, qualifications & experience

With over 20 years’ experience, I have worked across further education, healthcare and employee support services, supporting individuals and couples experiencing a wide range of emotional, psychological and relationship difficulties.

In addition to my therapeutic work, I have extensive experience in clinical quality and risk assessment. I also deliver teaching and training in relationship dynamics and couple counselling.

My approach is integrative, drawing primarily from person-centred therapy, attachment-informed approaches, CBT, and relationship-focused models, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel daunting, especially when life already feels overwhelming or relationships feels strained. People often worry that they will be judged, blamed, or that they 'should' be doing better than they are. My aim is to offer a space where clients can slow things down, feel genuinely listened to, and begin to understand themselves with greater clarity and compassion.

I work with adults of all ages and tailor the therapy to the individual or couple sitting in front of me.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

Both practice locations offer a quiet and private setting. My home-based therapy room in Hamilton, is wheelchair accessible. The Consulting Rooms, Glasgow, is located on the 6th floor with lift access.
