About me

Hello. I am Alison, an integrative humanistic counsellor and a fully registered member with the BACP.

I understand it can take a lot of courage to find a therapist and that there are lots of different reasons to look for one. Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, stress, negative thoughts, or depression. Feeling 'stuck' from past trauma or relationships not working the way you would like? Difficulty sleeping. Struggling to feel safe to open up to family and friends about how you really feel? Perhaps you are feeling not good enough and that you are somehow failing.

As a counsellor, I am person-centred and can offer you a warm, calm, non-judgemental space to talk through these challenges and feelings together. I can support you to understand yourself, develop helpful coping strategies, become empowered, gain resilience and confidence to begin to know yourself and what you want.

I am person-centred and believe the relationship between client and counsellor is fundamental so that you feel heard and listened to. This is at the core of my work. My approach is to work with and alongside you, providing a confidential place where you can talk about what you choose.

I believe that you are the 'expert' in your life. It's about finding what works for you. Being able to share your experiences and work through these difficult times.

Please contact me by email, and we can have a telephone conversation before we meet.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a qualified integrative counsellor, I have supported people with a range of issues and from all backgrounds and ages.

I may introduce creative, relaxation, CBT, and somatic therapies to the counselling, but only if this works for you.

I have a special interest in trauma and have supported adults who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I volunteer with a charity that supports these clients and have completed their training.

I have also worked with a charity, Pandas Foundation, supporting new parents experiencing pre and postnatal depression.

I am a counsellor for a local charity based in Cambridge.

Having trained as a therapist later in life, I have lots of life experience too. Having gone through the therapy process and counselling training, I became more self-aware and developed a better understanding of myself.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and commit to working in accordance with the Ethical Framework. I am fully insured and attend 30 hours, yearly, continued professional development training.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
