About me

I am Stuart, a BACP accredited, BUPA recognised counsellor/therapist for couples and individuals in the City of London, South Woodford and Forest Gate, East London.  I offer both face-to-face counselling and walking-talking counselling, however, in the case of individual counselling, I am able to offer sessions via Skype, if attending in person does not fit into your schedule.  However, in order for us to enter into this arrangement we will need to have our initial consultation in person.

Our initial session is for us to explore the possibility of working together using the counselling process.  For both individuals and couples, it is important that the counsellor you choose feels right for you and this initial (without obligation) session is important in helping you to decide whether I am indeed the best fit for you as a counsellor.

I am both a relational and person-centered therapist and very experienced in working with both individuals and couples.  I offer a non-judgemental, compassionate approach and a safe and supportive space where you can explore the issues that have led you to seek support.  I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their ethical framework.  This means that I  have undertaken a thorough post-qualification process in addition to my initial training.

Movement propels people forward – literally and figuratively. Many of my clients prefer to take their sessions out of the office and into the outdoors. Somehow the simple act of walking while talking out life’s issues creates an environment of possibility and change – of forward movement. Through the rhythm of walking and talking there is a sync between myself and my clients. At a moderate pace, healing and breakthroughs occur!

Walk & Talk sessions are conducted exactly the same way with respect to processing challenges and concerns, discussing relationship worries, working through recovery, healing, and addressing goals – the only difference is our session is conducted outdoors while walking. I conduct my Walk & Talk Sessions from my Forest Gate office which is located on the edge of open parkland (Wanstead Flats).  For further details please see my website

I currently charge £50.00 per 50 minute session for individual counselling (I have a few concessionary places, please enquire on contact and £70.00 per 75 minute session for couples for evening and weekend appointments. I am able to take referrals from those who have medical insurance from both BUPA and Aviva.  I offer early morning appointments between 7.00am and 9.00am for those who wish to attend before work.

I am able to offer sessions between the hours of 10.00am and 5.00pm at a discounted rate of £40.00 for individuals and £60.00 for couples.

I am able to provide details of services in the East London who provide low cost counselling on contact..

I have considerable experience of working with couples as a Solution Focussed Couples Counsellor.

I have 13 years clinical experience in the areas of:

•             working with hetrosexual and same sex couples

•             Relating to others in close relationships and social situations

•             Breaking unwanted patterns of behaviour that are destructive or keep us stuck

•             Developing greater self-esteem and confidence in expressing ourselves

•             Working with feelings of loneliness and isolation

•             Working with the LGBT community and am a LGBT affirmative therapist

Also: Depression – Stress and Anxiety – Anger – Work issues – Childhood issues – Parenting issues – Personal Growth and Development – Personal Loss and Bereavement – Eating Disorders – Infertility – Couples Counselling – Relationship Counselling.

Often people come to counselling with a unclear general feeling of confusion about the way their life is going but don’t always know what is causing this.  Time with your counsellor is a way for you to work out what this confusion and lack of clarity actually means and for you to gain insight into your life and feel restored again.

hope to help you identify the specific issues that are troubling you and move with you to explore these areas with the hope of resolving them in a confidential and safe environment.

Further information

In the event of us deciding to work together, the counselling process is open ended, sometimes people come to counselling with something very specific and when this happens it may be sufficient to work together for just a few sessions.  Generally, however, working with a counsellor is longer term than this.  You will know when the time comes and its right for you to end our work together.

I work separately as a specialist hypnotherapist dealing with  smoking cessation, weight loss and phobias.  Details of this service can be found at
