About me

I'm a warm and friendly counsellor with a relational approach to my work. I believe that if we can build the kind of relationship where you feel safe, respected and truly valued as a person, then you'll find it easier to explore whatever is feeling difficult. My style is relaxed and conversational because I understand how difficult it can be to open up to someone you've only just met.

I am interested in who you are, and believe that you already hold the answers that you need inside of you, and counselling can be a way for you to rediscover what is already there. Seeking help can be a turning point, as it’s a way of acknowledging that you matter, and that you're willing to explore the possibility that life can be better than it is now.

Video, Telephone or Email Sessions

I offer video and telephone sessions, or counselling by email for people who like to write, or perhaps don't have the privacy to talk online. You can find all the details of how this works by following the link to my website at the top of the page.

Ask A Counsellor

If you're not sure about whether you want to sign up for a course of therapy, then you have the option of sending a question about something that's troubling you and receiving a thoughtful and professional response, by email. All details on my website above.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling from a BACP accredited course, and I'm a registered, professionally accredited member of the National Counselling Society. I've previously worked in the NHS, both as a midwife, and in public health as a stop smoking specialist advisor; I've also been a holistic therapist.

I've had several years experience of working for a charity offering counselling to adult survivors of sexual abuse.

I’ve lived in America and the UK where I've supported families through the birth process and early child raising. I've also overcome many personal life challenges which I feel help me understand and connect with lots of different people and situations. I'm the mother of a large, grown up family, and currently live in Bristol.

My Approach

Although I'm trained as an integrative therapist - which means that I will choose different ways of working depending on what's right for you; I like to call myself a relational therapist because I believe that, firstly, it's the warm and trusting relationship we develop that helps bring about positive change. We are two, equal human beings creating a space of trust and enquiry.

I work with whatever is meaningful for you, which might include your spiritual or personal beliefs, creative writing, dream work and imagery. I also feel that humour and the ability to sometimes laugh with one another can be helpful!

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I'm interested in working with people who would describe themselves as highly sensitive, and want to explore and discover more about living well in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming.

As a former midwife. I have an interest in working with women and sometimes partners who have been traumatised by the birth process. Birth trauma is not uncommon, but sadly new parents often find it difficult to talk about as there's a false expectation that having a new baby should bring nothing but joy. Exhaustion, and upsetting memories about the birth can lead to postnatal depression, anxiety and relationship difficulties. I offer you an experienced and gentle approach to help you explore and resolve what is troubling you.
