About me

Sometimes, we find it difficult to ask for help. There are times when we are not sure what it is that we need help for? Times when we can not sleep or think.

Hello and welcome. I am Pauline and I am a qualified, professional counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults and couples in Braintree and Liverpool. With over 18 years of experience, I am able to offer a confidential and comfortable environment that allows you to feel valued and heard.

I have extensive experience in working with clients who are experiencing generalised anxiety, relationship issues, couples who are separated or divorced and wish to develop a deeper sense of understanding and an amicable working relationship with their ex partners for the benefit of their children. Severe anxiety, families in crisis, and social phobias. I also have many years of experience working alongside bereavement and loss, change, sleep deprivation, and many other conditions.

As a professional, I will work with you to explore your experiences, feelings and issues and facilitate you to make sense your experiences. Counselling with me can provide that space away from your environment, so you can start to identify and make the changes you need to move forward in your life.

I am a senior Counsellor with over 18 years experience working with Counselling and Psychotherapy at a deeper level, working with dreams, night terrors and many other dynamics which affect your experiences and behaviours.

I will continue to draw on research and evidence from the human psychology, combining these discipline's to form a holistic approach which can help you make the positive changes you need in your life. When you feel you can't cope with life's challenges, Counselling can give you the key to open that closed door, and lead you back on your life path.

What happens in the first session?

Prior to any therapy session or any intervention, an initial assessment is conducted to obtain relative information pertaining to any presenting problems or issues of concern, upon such assessment an agreed time period, will be made for you, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it in a more autonomous way.

I am mindful how difficult it is to ask for professional help. It is important that you feel safe and comfortable. As a member of the BACP, I am bound by its code of ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedures therein.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

  • Sleep Deprivation
  • Dream Interpretation
  • Meditation
  • Sleep Discs.

I work with dreams in the therapeutic frame. This is implicit to the dreamer, our dreams have a way of telling us a story however, the signs in our dreams are about our daily experiences, when sublimation occurs, you may be confused as to what is your dream trying to tell you.

However when the therapeutic alliance is formed between the client and therapist, the therapist can interpret what is happening, when they know their history and background, through the confidentiality in the session.

Visual Guided Imagery can be used within the the session to develop ways of working with sleep deprivation and panic.

Cancellation of Appointments

I manage a 48 hour cancellation notice policy. All clients be required to cancel the appointment within the 48 hour of the arranged therapy session and have to be conduct in verbal conformation or you can leave a message on the voicemail Service. Failure to cancel an appointment with less than 48 hours notice will incur a cancellation fee, which is set at the cost of the therapy session. The related practitioner must be compensated for advanced bookings.

An appointment will be made for an initial assessment, this is important for both the client and the Therapist. Both client and therapist can decide if they feel comfortable working together. The assessment will be for one and a half hours. This will give the client time to discuss the presenting problem or issue of concern. Also the client has the opportunity to give details of any medication or clinical history. The rules of confidentiality are in place throughout all appointments and sessions (BACP Code of Ethics). Upon such assessment weekly or fortnightly therapy sessions will be offered as appropriate.
