About me

Hello, I am Patti Holden, a Gestalt Therapist and Counsellor with over 20 years of practice experience. I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I can offer you a safe, confidential area in which to explore your issues, increase your self-awareness and strengthen your relationships. I can help you to surmount the blocks which are holding you back from leading a satisfying lifestyle. In this time of national emergency, when people are feeling unsupported, anxious, lonely and isolated, relationships can be frayed and it may be a good time to seek support and deal with those issues. Limited face to face work is possible at this time, although I can offer the same level of empathy, listening, challenge and support either by telephone or by video therapy. Call me for a short assessment and we can plan your sessions around your current lifestyle. Take a look at my website for testimonials and articles and more information on my therapeutic approach.

Areas of counselling I can help with

Anxiety, panic attacks, loss and bereavement are all issues that I can help to alleviate and support. I have had great success in working with clients who have felt debilitated by the effects of panic attacks. I am experienced in working with various sexual issues and these include supporting victims of rape and abuse and domestic violence. I have also worked extensively with transsexual and gender issues and feel that I am empathetic to people of various sexual orientations. Supporting those seeking their identity has become a special focus in my work.

I work with clients in recovery from substance abuse, self-harm, depression and low self-esteem and have over the years, supported many individuals and couples in helping them with greater clarity and awareness in their relationships. I can help with anger management and also with work-related issues.

My experience has given me great insight into working with personality disorders, enduring mental health issues, as well as OCD. I can support you towards a more positive and meaningful lifestyle with clarity and choice in the future. You will find my approach both challenging and encouraging, compassionate and fruitful. The therapeutic relationship can be firmly established, face to face, by telephone, Zoom or Email. I am happy to make home visits to those with mobility or medical issues.

What to do next

Please do phone or email me for an initial discussion and to arrange a mutually suitable time for an initial session.

I work in congenial surroundings in Belper. This is very central for Chesterfield, The Peaks and Dales of Derbyshire, Sheffield, Derby, Belper and Nottingham. I can offer home visits,  and parking is available from my place of work.

Now is the time to start the beginning of the rest of your life!

Training, qualifications & experience

I studied person-centred Counselling at Advanced level at Nottingham University and then completed three years of formal training in Gestalt Therapy at the Manchester Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute UK.

I hold the NVQ Level 4 Management of Learning and Development and have designed and delivered Courses in Counselling Skills, Confidence Building, Assertiveness and Personal Development at various Adult Education Centers, for Derbyshire County Council. This means that I can also help you with your personal development and ideas for the future and work-related issues.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and work within their Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. I have a full DBS enhanced disclosure document and work with young and vulnerable people. I have 20 years of private practice and voluntary counselling work experience.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
