About me

I am a qualified experienced counsellor and psychotherapist who has been working in private practice and within organisations for more than 20 years. Over the years I have worked with people from many different backgrounds face to face and online offering long and short term psychotherapy and counselling. I hold a Masters degree in psychotherapy and post graduate diplomas in counselling and supervision and am registered as a psychotherapist with with United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. As well as private practice I have the experience of setting up and developing a counselling service for an organisation and of co-ordinating a bereavement service within the NHS.

My approach is integrative, which means that my counselling and therapy skill set is taken from a number of different theories of counselling and psychotherapy.

My style is open, warm and supportive. I respect difference and my approach will be tailored to responding to your individual needs.

In keeping with my training I firmly believe that we all have within us the power and potential to overcome the inner and outer obstacles that life presents us with. My job is to help guide you to find your own path and to support you through that process.

As well as talking it can sometimes be helpful to work creatively through other mediums such as dreams, writing, imagery and drawing.

I originally trained as a nurse and was registered as a general nurse (RGN)l and also as a sick children's nurse (RSCN). It was as a nurse many years ago that I first discovered that talking and expressing feelings had a significant impact on a persons well being.

My main counselling and psychotherapy training was at the Institute of Psychosynthesis in North London where I studied first as a therapeutic counsellor and then as a a psychotherapist.

As well as private practice I have worked in a hospital setting and in hospices with adults and children suffering from life threatening and life limiting illnesses.

I have the experience of setting up and developing a counselling service for a charitable organisation and of co-ordinating a bereavement service within the NHS.

I am qualified to supervise psychotherapists, counsellors and other professionals.(see supervisors profile)

Further information

I offer a safe and confidential space where together we can explore all that you need and want to.

The initial assessment or first session will be for 60 minutes duration all further sessions are for 50 minutes.

The first session is a time for us to meet each other and to see if we have the potential to develop a secure and trusting relationship together. Choosing the right counsellor or therapist is an important decision and this is a time for you to ask any questions you may need me to answer. It is useful to bear in mind that research has shown the relationship that develops between the counsellor and client is more important to the effectiveness of the therapy than the approach used. The relationship we develop will therefore be at the heart of the counselling or therapy work.

We will then agree how we will work together and possible ways forward. We will also agree fees, number of sessions, frequency and cancellations.

Depending on your needs and expectations we will have agreed to a set number of sessions and the dates and time before reviewing or ending.

If our work together is long term then we will have regular reviews.
