Life may be stressful and overwhelming at times and you can feel troubled, isolated and lonely. Counselling can help you to off load and work through issues that affect your life in a diverse or detrimental way.
I do respect every client as an individual and the issues and problems you may bring will be completely different from anyone else and therefore the counselling has to be right for you. I offer short term solution focused, medium or long term counselling that offers in depth work that can help to make sense with issues in the present or from the past. Whatever your needs are - I will always strive to keep you safe in a supportive and confidential environment.

I am educated to University Degree Level within the disciplines of psychology and counselling. I am a qualified and experienced senior counsellor. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My approach is integrative which means that I draw from different approaches of counselling I am qualified in or have training with. My work is underpinned by Person Centred counselling that promotes empathy and unconditional acceptance for the client and the Psychodynamic traditions that helps to explore issues and emotions that might be hidden in the clients unconscious.
My philosophy is that every person is unique and an individual and has the right to be treated with respect and dignity. Counselling therefore will be individually tailored to a clients needs.
I am committed to work in a confidential, ethical and therefore sensitive ,non-judgemental and non-discriminatory way that encompasses issues that are of racial and cultural diversity, sexual differences and religious issues. I am experienced working with individual clients, male and female and couples encompassing heterosexual, bi-sexual and non-heterosexual orientation.

Within my private practice I have extensive experience working with general issues and specific counselling areas as listed below. Some of these are in the field of relationship issues, loss and bereavement, depression, low self-esteem, addictions, anger management, issues with masculinity and general self-development.
I also work with clients who suffer anxieties and presenting mental health issues such as OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) and the field of personality disorders.
I work with teenagers and young adults and the specific issues they face.
I work within the area of sexual, emotional and physical abuse.
Your issues might be more complex and do not fall into a neat category or are unclear. I am more than happy to discuss these matters with you on first contacts or in the free initial consultation I offer.

My main approach to counselling is one to one talking therapy. However, I am dedicated to provide the best possible outcome of counselling for my clients and can offer in addition a variety of different approaches when this is appropriate.  This includes art therapy using different mediums for instance photography therapy, stone therapy and relaxation techniques.

I am experienced working as a counsellor with people with alcohol problems and  gambling problems.
I am part of a therapeutic team in an agency who work with victims of sexual, emotional and physical abuse. 
I also work with clients that are referred from 'Employee Assistance Program' agencies and Insurance companies.
However, most of my private clients self refer from the general public.
I also take referral from the NHS.
I provide supervision for individual counsellors and external supervision for counselling agencies.

Fees

I appreciate the importance to find the right counsellor for you. Please do contact me by e-mail kwcounselling@aol.com , phone or text with any question you may have prior to your first appointment.

  • I offer an initial consultation which is free for all clients. This gives you the client the opportunity to explore what counselling entails and to ask any questions you may have.
  • I am committed to work with clients from all walks of life. My fee thereafter is £35.00 per 1 hour session for individual counselling; payable at each session.
  • My fee for couples counselling  is £45.00 per 1 hour session payable per session.
  • I offer couples the choice to book an initial free consultation and to book a provisional full counselling session immediatly after. Extended sessions for couple counselling are possible and can be agreed.
  • I offer a concessionary fee of £30.00 for individual counselling per session:
  • people in receipt of benefits and tax credits
  • student counsellors
  • students
  • I am happy to discuss a reduced fee if you are on a low income.
  • I offer a limited number of evening or Saturday appointments for clients who unable to attend sessions during the day or during the week.

Further Information

  • I work with my clients at safe, secure and confidential counselling premises in Shrewsbury that are located in the town centre near the Market Square. Car parking is near by and in walking distance.
  • I also practice from premises in the pretty town of Wem and is a 20 min drive north of Shrewsbury. My practice in Wem is a 5 minutes walk from the town centre and a 2 minutes walk from the train station.

I ensure complete confidentiality and added privacy as the counselling area has a private entrance with self contained facilities that are located on the ground floor. Please see photograph above. 

 Attending my practice in Wem offers the additional advantage of:
