Counselling Directory partners with Step by Step
Charity has always been close to our hearts here at Counselling Directory and every year we donate to causes we believe in. To date we have given to charities such as Depression Alliance and Women’s Aid.
This year, we’re turning 10 – a huge landmark we want to commemorate. To do this we have decided to partner up with a charity and become their champion for a whole year. The charity we’ve chosen is Step by Step.
Step by Step is a charity working with young homeless people aged 11-25. Their tried and tested combination of services include accommodation, training, support and counselling to those in need.
The programme helps clients reach their full potential by encouraging them to take control of their lives, learn basic life skills (like cooking and cleaning) and train in skills they can use in the wider community.
Step by Step recognises that simply providing accommodation isn’t enough. People who find themselves homeless often have troubled backgrounds. This is why the counselling aspect is so important, helping clients overcome personal issues and regain their ability to trust.
Learning both basic life skills and skills they can take into a working environment gives clients the best chance of success when they leave the programme. One of the things we particularly like about Step by Step is that even when clients leave the programme, they are always welcome to drop back in. Whether it’s to say hello, ask for advice or just to catch up, Step by Step’s family values mean no one is forgotten when they leave.
So, how will we be supporting them? Over the upcoming year we will be donating both money and time to the charity monthly. As well as raising funds, we are keen to share our business and marketing knowledge with participants in the programme.
We’re excited to get stuck in on the volunteering side of things and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on our various activities over the year.
