About us

Cornerstone is an established professional counselling service based in Yateley, Hampshire. We are a registered charity providing affordable, confidential support to individuals and couples aged 18 and above. Our counsellors are professionally trained for the work they do, and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Counselling Professionals.

Covid-19 Update April 2021

We are currently able to offer online/telephone counselling, alongside some limited face-to-face support.  We have introduced new practices (in line with government guidelines) to ensure the safety of our clients and counsellors, and these will change over time as required. Our standard contribution is £40 per 50 minute session, but we are keen to make counselling affordable for everyone at this time and so we are currently offering time limited counselling from as little as £10 per session, depending on your circumstances. The first step is to arrange an initial 50 minute assessment session, for which there is a £10 fee.

We provide help for people with many different needs including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, panic attacks, stress, anger management, abuse, family/relationship issues, problems at work and bereavement. Our counsellors come from all walks of life, and have developed their own areas of specialism and ways of working with clients. We always look to allocate the right counsellor for your particular needs.

You will have the opportunity to explore your experiences and feelings and work through difficult issues in your life. Over a number of weeks we aim to come alongside you in these difficulties, helping you to gain a better understanding of yourself and your circumstances. Counselling invites you to change by helping you to find new strength and the freedom to make your own choices. Counselling is based on listening and is not about giving you advice, telling you what to do or judging you. It can, however, enable you to see things from a new perspective.

Training, qualifications & experience

We have ten counsellors who are all professionally trained for the work they do and adhere to the BACP Ethical framework for counselling professionals. We offer some placements to those in the final stages of their counselling training. All our counsellors receive professional supervision and are accountable to the organisation for the work they do.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
