About me

I am a relational, integrative counsellor that draws upon a number of different counselling modalities to best suit what comes up in the room in each moment. At the core of my work is a person-centred approach, but I draw particularly from psychodynamic, transactional analysis, and CBT.

I am really interested in our patterns of behaviour, where they come from and how they serve us; so naturally this informs my work.

Beneath all the theory, though, I believe that the relationship between us is what really facilitates change; so that relational dynamic is central to the work.

I have also had a lot of experience with grief and bereavement, after working with a local hospice, which enabled me to sit with people in their most vulnerable and painful moments.

As a therapist, I am curious about how our patterns of behaviour drive us and where these come from; I aim to help walk alongside people as they discover and uncover the patterns that have been shaping their lives.

I aim to be there beside you, helping you to uncover these patterns and then support you in making the changes that feel right for you. Whilst I appreciate the role that our behaviours play, I am also interested in somatic work and helping people bring an awareness to the connection between body and mind.

Having come from a sporting and coaching background where adaptation is key, I am very flexible in my approach and am happy to work creatively with clients too. I appreciate the level of depth that can be reached when working creatively and feel that it can, at times, open up doors that otherwise may remain shut, as words cannot always seem to unlock certain doors.

I am open to working with people on both a short-term and longer-term, open-ended basis, appreciating that everyone has different things that they hope to get from therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I spent over 12 years coaching in combat sports, and five years working as a youth worker and mentor for a CIC which supports vulnerable young people in the local community. Alongside this work, I completed my counselling studies and placements with two different providers.

I spent just over a year at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, providing counselling support to those experiencing bereavement and grief - a profound experience, and one I value immensely. I also volunteered at the Mindspace Foundation counselling service, working with issues including grief, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, trauma, anxiety and depression.

I currently hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and I’m studying towards a Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling with The Mindspace Foundation.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
