About us

The Healing Rooms is a small organisation that provides accessible counselling and psychotherapy to the local community by experienced, qualified therapists.

We offer a Warm, safe and confidential space where couples, adults and young people can come to be heard, understood and supported. We recognise that taking the first step towards counselling can feel difficult, and we aim to meet each person with compassion, respect and genuine care.

At the heart of what we do is our low cost counselling service that is provided by trainee counsellors who are in their final stages of training. They are supported, supervised and managed by Joanne Stacey, the founder of the Healing Rooms, and their course leaders.

The counselling offered is open ended, meaning there is not a fixed number of sessions, instead, your therapist allows the work to unfold at a pace that feels right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Joanne Stacey, founder of the Healing Rooms, holds a BSc(Hons) degree in integrative psychotherapy, a post graduate diploma in clinical supervision, an undergraduate diploma in person-centred counselling and a certificate in couples counselling. She is registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and works within their ethical framework.

All trainees are student members of the BACP and are training on BACP accredited courses.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
