About me
Hi, I'm Stephen, an experienced relationship therapist offering support to couples and those in diverse relationship models. I provide in-person sessions in Clifton, Bristol (BS8).
My approach is warm, collaborative and grounded in helping clients find new ways to navigate challenges and make more informed choices. Sessions offer a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
I have a particular interest in working with issues relating to sexuality and sexual identity within relationships. I also bring extensive experience supporting members of the LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse communities.
As an integrative therapist, I draw on a variety of therapeutic methods to enhance relationship wellbeing and deepen self-awareness. I’ve supported couples facing challenges such as:
- Relationship and sex-related issues, including non-monogamy
- Communication issues
- Questions or struggles around sexuality
- Anxiety, depression, or low self-confidence
- Neurodiversity
- Work, or career concerns
- Life transitions and the search for a more fulfilling future
Our time together
Our first meeting provides an opportunity to explore what you hope to gain from relationship counselling. I’ll be interested in learning more about you both – your relationship, experiences, concerns, and goals – and you’ll have the chance to ask questions about how I work and what to expect.
Together, we’ll consider how relationship therapy might support you. We'll discuss how we can work collaboratively to create a space that feels safe, respectful and tailored to your needs. This is likely to include understanding the dynamics of your relationship and identifying areas you'd like to strengthen or resolve.
Your initial relationship therapy session is offered at a reduced rate of £40 and lasts 60 minutes. Sessions will then take place at the same time each week. There’s no fixed rule about how long therapy should last, it can be short-term or ongoing, and you’re always in control of how long you choose to continue.
Each session after our first meeting is £80 (for 60 minutes).
Training, qualifications & experience
I have an Advanced Diploma in Relationship Psychotherapy and a Post Graduate Diploma (Distinction) in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have been working as a therapist for over ten years with adults of all ages.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). The BACP is the largest professional body representing counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK. They set the standards, values, and ethical guidelines by which therapists work to. I am committed to regular continuing professional development to keep me up to date with current practice.
As part of my therapeutic approach I draw on my experience of different theoretical approaches, including person centred and psychodynamic theory and cognitive behavioural therapy, to provide tailored support.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
