About me
Simon Hawkins is the lead therapist of South West Psychotherapy and in our practice we provide an extensive range of warm, friendly & professional counselling, psychotherapy and other therapeutic services.
We have training in a wide range of specialist therapies to cater for almost every therapeutic need, and also provide clinical supervision and training for therapists and other healthcare providers.
South West Psychotherapy have spent many years providing help & support in Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
We have also provided therapy for those as far away as Devon, Cornwall, Wiltshire, London (including the home counties), as well as in South Wales, Scotland, Cheshire & Yorkshire.
And although we are based in the South West of the UK; we are also helping people from all over the world via our online services.
We maintain our two primary practice rooms within the harbourside town of Portishead with its breath-taking views across the Bristol Channel over to the stunning Welsh hills, as well as the Iconic Bristol suburb of Clifton; home to Brunel’s famous suspension bridge.
Both venues are within easy reach of Portishead, Bristol, Thornbury, Bath, Clevedon, Gloucestershire, Congresbury, Nailsea, Backwell, Pill, Portbury, Worle, Weston Super-Mare. Burnham on-Sea, Bridgewater and Taunton.
For those you unable to travel; we are also fully insured to visit you at your home.
We can also offer “walk and talk” therapy sessions.
We are now also able to offer urgent appointments within 48 hours (subject to availability & excluding weekends, holidays & bank holidays).
In our many years of working with clients experiencing pain, anxiety, depression and distress we have found that the key to a successful therapeutic outcome is in finding the right therapist for the individual client (even more so in many cases, than the type of therapeutic intervention itself).
Therapy can also help us to understand ourselves, a family member or loved one that may have a neurological diversity i.e.
Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD, Asperger’s, Autism)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
or any other form of Neuro Diversity.
Here at South West Psychotherapy, we welcome all genders, faiths, sexual orientations, disabilities, neurological impairments or any similarities or differences that a person may struggle with at any given time in their lives.
All people, parts and problems are welcome here!
One of the hardest things a person can do when they are in a great deal of emotional pain is to admit to others (and often themselves) that they have a problem and may need professional help; the fact that you are reading this right now means that you are already contemplating making a positive change in how you wish to live the rest of your life.
This is a huge step in facing up to, processing and overcoming whichever personal issues have brought you here today.
People who undertake therapy often report significant improvements in the quality of their relationships, increased confidence and a growing ability to take risks and make positive changes in their lives.
If you have any questions, then please feel free to contact us in the strictest confidence, and without obligation.

The Association for Counselling and Therapy Online
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
