MBACP Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist

About me

“Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed. It means it no longer controls your life.”
I believe that counselling can offer a space where healing becomes possible - slowly, safely, and at your own pace. If you choose to work with me, I will walk alongside you as you explore your experiences, reconnect with your strengths, and move toward a place of greater wellbeing.

I am an experienced, accredited member of the BACP, having qualified in 2012 from the University of Strathclyde. Since then, I’ve gained a broad and diverse range of experience working with both adults and young people (aged 11+), supporting clients through a wide variety of emotional and psychological challenges.

At the heart of my work is the belief that real change happens through genuine human connection. I pride myself on being someone who helps you feel at ease quickly, creating a space where you can feel safe enough to be vulnerable, explore your thoughts, and begin to make sense of your experiences.

As a person-centred therapist, I place you at the centre of our work together. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to support you with empathy, honesty, and respect. I have tailored my practise to individuals needs offering more of an intergrative approach to include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Trauma-informed approaches
  • Anxiety management techniques (including NHS-informed training)

This flexible approach allows us to work in a way that feels right for you, whether you are looking for emotional support, practical coping strategies, or deeper self-understanding.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 14 years’ experience in counselling and psychotherapy, supporting adults (18–65+) and young people aged 11 and above. Much of my work has been within a charitable organisation, where I offered long‑ and short‑term support to people facing a wide range of emotional and life challenges.

For six years, I worked as a school counsellor in an Additional Needs Secondary School, supporting neurodivergent young people aged 11–18. I also have extensive experience across mainstream schools throughout South Lanarkshire, offering a consistent, accepting space for young people navigating stress, identity, relationships and change.

I spent five years counselling individuals affected by alcohol and drug use, as well as their family members and loved ones. This work deepened my understanding of the impact of trauma, shame and family dynamics, and strengthened my belief in the importance of meeting each person with empathy and respect.

I was also part of an award‑winning youth counselling programme in Scotland, supporting young people aged 14–18 through some of the most formative and challenging moments in their lives.

I now work within a specialist trauma service, where my practice remains rooted in person‑centred values - offering safety, choice, collaboration and a steady therapeutic relationship where people can explore their experiences at a pace that feels right for them.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

What is (LIAM)?

Let’s Introduce Anxiety Management (LIAM) was developed by NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles. It helps children to understand their anxiety in terms of how it affects our thoughts, body and actions. LIAM teaches children ways to cope with their anxiety using ‘anxiety tools’. LIAM involves meeting with myself on a one-to-one basis for around 8 sessions to complete LIAM workbooks. Children practice the LIAM anxiety tools in between sessions, with help from parent/carers.This allows the parents/care givers to see the progress of the weekly sessions as well as coping tools to help the children.
