About us

Welcome to Serendipity Psychology

At Serendipity Psychology Beds and Bucks ltd, we understand the courage it takes to seek support and the importance of finding the right professional to guide you on your journey. Our team is here to provide a warm, compassionate, and expert approach to mental health care, offering tailored therapies to suit your individual needs.

Meet Beth McCay – Clinical Lead & Director

Hi, I am Beth McCay, the Clinical Lead and Director of Serendipity Psychology Beds and Bucks Ltd. I am a BACP accredited Psychotherapist and EMDR Therapist who specializes in trauma-focused therapy, Personality disorders, developmental trauma and relational healing.

I have substantial experience working in acute mental health settings with adults struggling with severe and enduring mental health difficulties such as self-harm and personality disorders. I also have experience working with general mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression.

I have worked with young people and their families who have been adopted or fostered. I also developed and led a school counselling service, which I am very proud of. Prior to this, I worked within a local community, providing drug and alcohol counselling to residents in need.

My approach is rooted in trauma-informed principles, ensuring clients feel safe, respected, and empowered throughout their therapeutic journey. By integrating Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) into my therapeutic work, I help my clients process traumatic memories gently and effectively. EMDR allows clients to access and reprocess difficult experiences in a way that reduces emotional overwhelm, promotes healing, and fosters resilience.

My integrative style brings together the best elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Transactional Analysis, and Person-Centred Therapy. This blend of approaches allows me to address each client’s challenges from various perspectives, helping them to build self-awareness and achieve their therapeutic goals.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is key to my clients achieving their goals. I am, therefore, responsible for ensuring that therapy is a safe and secure place for you. Therapy is tailored to each individual client.

As the Clinical Lead, I am dedicated to ensuring that all our clients receive the highest quality of care and that the team is continuously supported in their professional development to provide the most effective therapies possible.

Discover How We Can Make a Difference:

At Serendipity, we understand that no two individuals are the same and that's why we take a uniquely personalised approach to your care. Our team of experienced psychologists, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, counsellors, mental health nurses and occupational therapists are trained in a wide variety of evidence-based treatments that have been recommended by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as the most successful approaches. Some of these therapies include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), trauma therapies (such as EMDR), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), schema therapy and mindfulness (for a more exhaustive list, please see below). We work with you to integrate these modalities to create a treatment plan that's unique to you.

Perhaps differently from other independent practitioners, we are proud that we also work as a team. This is a huge benefit to you in many ways. It means the person working with you has access to the support and expertise of many other specialists in their respective fields. They also have constant access to internal continuing professional development and training. Best of all, we can build a pathway of care around you to ensure you always have support if you need it.

Together, we'll work towards building resilience, fostering self-awareness, and empowering you to overcome life's obstacles.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training and Qualifications:

All our therapists have a wide range of qualifications including postgraduate doctoral level training, degree level and, or masters level qualifications. Some of our therapists have all three of these! Our therapists have also gained significant further training in specific therapeutic modalities (i.e. EMDR, CBT, DBT), presenting issues and client groups (child, adult, couples and families). We are lucky enough to claim that we have some of the top-level specialists in the country working with us on our team and the best thing about this is that those specialists have signed up to offer all of our team their support and help in our work as we need it.

Everyone in our team is accredited or actively working towards accreditation with the best professional membership bodies including HCPC, BACP, UKCP and NCS so you can be assured that our team have received the training and experience they need to know how to help in the best possible way. More information about the qualifications and training of specific members of our team is available on our website under their profile information.

school Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
