About me

Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? Feeling overwhelmed by loss, or stuck in unhelpful patterns of thinking? Perhaps you're unsure how things could ever feel different.

You don't have to face these feelings alone.

I'm a BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with over 25 years' experience helping individuals and couples navigate many life-challenging situations. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, bereavement, trauma, or simply feeling lost, I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can begin to make sense of what you're experiencing.

What I offer
I work with individuals and couples using a humanistic, person-centred approach, drawing on psychodynamic and CBT methods, where helpful. My aim is to create the conditions that allow you to grow, through both support and gentle challenge, so you can reconnect with yourself and make decisions that feel right for you.

Taking the first step
Reaching out for support takes courage. I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation so we can explore whether my approach seems appropriate for your needs. Sessions last 50 minutes to one hour. If you feel the ‘fit’ is right, we can arrange an initial appointment. Then if you decide to engage with follow-up sessions to support you through a difficult time, we can discuss what works best and review our contract periodically.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Students, young adults, clients from diverse backgrounds

Having spent 18 years counselling students and staff in university settings, before setting up in private practice, I have in depth knowledge and understanding of the pressures of academia from a range of perspectives. My doctorate addressed areas of cross-cultural counselling as I had the opportunity to work with many international students at that time. Those opportunities and insights have informed my skills and knowledge for working with diverse clients from many different backgrounds presenting with issues including identity, sexuality, sexual orientation and cultural belonging.

Couple Therapy

Addressing communication issues can help with resolving conflicts and generally encourage the health and stability of the relationship. I have experience in working with heterosexual and same-sex couples. When remedial counselling is not appropriate, separation counselling can help a couple to part on more amicable terms. Being able to reduce and minimise acrimony can help individuals to move on positively. This is especially important where there are children and the couple may need help to establish a different kind of relationship whose focus is parenting responsibilities.
