About me

Hi, I'm Sam, an Integrative Psychotherapist who works with adults and young people around a broad range of issues. I am particularly experienced in working with adults and young people who self-harm and/or are experiencing eating distress. In my experience, therapy can be helpful for all ages and for a very broad range of issues. I work in a way that places clients at the centre of our work together and that supports them to use therapy in the way that is most beneficial to them.

I seek to listen to clients fully and see therapy as a collaborative process in which we can explore any difficulties and life experiences in the hope that in doing so you might bring into awareness thing that you may have been previously unaware of. In turn, this may lead to meaningful change, should you want it to.

I also offer EMDR therapy. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a form of psychotherapy that helps people heal from trauma and distressing experiences by reprocessing painful memories, reducing the emotional impact and allowing the brain to process them more adaptively. It involves recalling traumatic memories while using guided eye movements (or other bilateral stimulation, like tapping) to help the brain unlock and reprocess these stuck feelings, often leading to significant symptom relief for PTSD, anxiety, depression, and phobias.

I support Neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ affirming care.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy. I have experience in the NHS, educational, charitable, and private settings.

During my training I studied several approaches in psychotherapy including; Person-Centred, Relational, Gestalt, Phenomenological, Experiential, Transactional Analysis, and Psychodynamic. I believe this training has grounded me well in offering a Humanistic form of Integrative Psychotherapy.

I am also qualified in EMDR therapy.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
