About me

Samantha Kim-Robinson:

Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy PGDip, MBACP (Accred)

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist and counsellor practicing in central Norwich, working with adults (18+) in private practice. I work on both a short term and long term basis, depending on what is needed.

There are times in our lives, as human beings, that we could all benefit from the opportunity to look more deeply at what really matters to us. You may know what you are struggling with, or it may be that you find yourself in new territory, or perhaps you are needing help to navigate a time of great change.

I offer a safe and non-judgmental space where you can bring anything you are struggling with and want to work on.  As people with unique histories, I do not believe one model fits all, or that what may be helpful at one time in life is what is needed now. I integrate a range of modalities including Psychodynamic, Humanistic, body-based and behavioural  within a trauma informed, relational framework. I work collaboratively and pragmatically with you and your expertise about yourself and your experiences.

Central to therapeutic work is the relationship, as research consistently demonstrates - it is the emotional quality of the relationship, rather than a particular technique or approach that is at the heart of healing and change. I therefore pay close attention to the unfolding of the  therapeutic relationship as well as how your experiences in relationships may be influenced by experiences from the past.

Within my framework I also hold awareness of the balance of power in the relationship and am committed to anti-oppressive practice, striving to offer a  sensitive space that supports clients who have been marginalised and whose problems are exacerbated within the wider culture and environment.

I understand that facing what you are going through and reaching out can be profoundly daunting but it could also be the beginning of creating the changes you want and need for yourself in your life. The first step would be to arrange an initial session. We can then begin a conversation about what you are hoping to address, and meet to see if I might be the right therapist for you.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
