About me

Whatever you're going through, I will meet you with compassion, empathy and acceptance. Maybe it’s a constant undercurrent of anxiety, or a low mood that won’t shift. Maybe you’ve been holding yourself together for everyone else, but inside you feel frayed, disconnected, or unsure of who you are anymore.

I’m Ryan, a fully qualified, person-centred counsellor in Redruth, Cornwall, specialising in anxiety, depression, and low self-worth. Together, at a pace that feels right, we’ll create space for change with a therapeutic approach that respects your individuality and supports your personal goals. With compassion and curiosity, we’ll explore what’s happening beneath the surface, holding a mirror and gently uncovering the patterns, emotions, and beliefs that may be contributing to your tension. Therapy to shine a light on the shadows, so you can move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and self-understanding.

Working together in a person-centred way, we’ll explore and trust your instincts to make sense of how you feel. That might include things you’ve never said out loud, or experiences and emotions you’re still figuring out. The work often explores the feelings beneath the words, the pauses, the silences, and the things that are hard to name. It isn’t always about finding answers; sometimes it’s about staying with the questions or uncertainty. About making space for the parts of you that haven’t had room to speak or be understood before.

Sessions take place in my calm, comfortable counselling space in Redruth, online, or over the phone, whichever feels right for you. There’s no set timetable, no pressure to commit long-term. Just one step at a time, starting from where you are right now.

If you’re ready to begin, or even just curious to find out more, let's talk.

Couples Therapy
Alongside my work with individuals, I now offer counselling for couples. Many people put off relationship work until things feel challenging, when the same arguments keep playing out or the connection has started to fade. We start by taking an honest look at what's working and where you're getting stuck, before moving into the everyday things that make a relationship feel close: how you handle disagreement, how you stay friends through ordinary life, and how you make meaning together. This isn't about working out who's at fault. The aim is for both of you to feel genuinely heard, and to leave with a clearer sense of each other and the relationship you want to build.

Client Feedback

"Ryan has an amazing ability to listen, I mean really listen, not to just what is being said, but also to what is not being said. He is so observant and picks up on changes in expression and body language to formulate a very accurate image of what is going on."

"After feeling so at ease and talking to Ryan about my situation, I was, even at the end of my first session, feeling much more positive and actually wanting to live and that life is worth living. That’s how bad I was and how incredible his sessions are. He is extremely supportive and has instilled in me that I am worthy, important, and I have a purpose in life. These qualities were non-existent in my mindset prior to meeting Ryan."

Training, qualifications & experience

My training is rooted in a person-centred approach, supported by formal training and hands-on experience in listening to people’s stories with care and respect.

I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, with additional training in counselling studies, counselling skills, and Mental Health First Aid. I’ve also completed the Samaritans Core Training, which deepened my ability to be present with people in moments of crisis or distress.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in creative fields, earning a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design. That background taught me the value of curiosity, creativity, and seeing the world from different perspectives, qualities that continue to shape the way I meet each client as a unique individual.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
