About me

Hello,

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge making the choice to begin a therapeutic journey is big stuff and can be overwhelming, it’s the bravest of steps. Then there is: looking for a therapist, deciding on a modality, finding the right fit, the right price and then actually engaging with and going through the therapeutic process of change. It is a lot, but the transformation that can come from genuine acceptance is truly revolutionary.

My name is Ryan, I am a Person-Centred Pluralistic Counsellor, having qualified from the Metanoia Institute in London.

The approach I practice is deeply relational, with a strength in the belief that the foundations of our therapeutic relationship are the most important factor for change to be possible. I bring a genuine warmth and deep empathy, which attempts to allow a foundation of safety and trust to be built, enabling space for your exploration. Wherever you go, however deep, however painful or difficult to express, I’ll be there alongside you in that journey, at your pace; baring witness to the becoming of the future you.

Person-Centred Philosophy is embedded in the idea that ‘you know you better than I do’ and I will be honing in on your uniqueness, via deep empathy, curiosity and transparency. Pluralism is the notion that ‘different things work for different people at different times’. It really hones in on the uniqueness of encounter and relationship, no two are the same. I will work collaboratively with you to figure out what works best for you. The blend of these two ideas enables you to explore and me to attune to that path, nowhere is off limits and great healing and self-understanding is possible.

Being genuinely met, seen, heard and understood is quite profound experience; a place where you can truly be you, unjudged, can lead to immense growth and transformation. I truly believe in the BACP Ethical Framework and the safety and containment it brings. I also use Supervision to enhance and improve the ongoing work I do.

It’s both scary and exciting, delving into the unknown, exploring feelings once not allowed or not welcome, but every part of you is welcome here. The approach I offer isn’t for everyone, there will be one out there that works for you, but it’s certainly worth a try.

I offer a free 20-minute chat or meet to answer any questions you may have and to see if we are the right fit for each other. You can message me via email or text and we can arrange a time. Please also see my website for a deeper understanding of the practice I offer.

I genuinely look forward to hearing from and meeting you.

Training, qualifications & experience

During my time as a therapist, I have worked alongside depression, anxiety, bereavement / grief, trauma, historical sexual abuse and self-empowerment. I currently work in a rehabilitation centre for people trying to regain control over their addiction and I have worked for many years with people with Autism; my knowledge and understanding in these areas is vast and evolving. I love working creatively too; there is a belief that working in this way can access a deeper meaning to the one we already know.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
