I am pleased to offer a free no obligation 20 minute introductory call to help you to make the right choice for you. Please get in touch if you would like to book one in.
A Bit About Me
I know that making the decision to begin counselling is sometimes a difficult one, as an Integrative Humanistic Counsellor I am here to metaphorically walk with you as we explore together your thoughts, feelings and all that is inbetween.
I work in a confidential, warm, supportive and honest way. Through the therapeutic relationship I aim to guide and support you in exploring your own issues or concerns. I offer a safe, secure and non-judgemental space for you to explore your true self and any issues that you might be experiencing. My work is informed by different therapeutic models but everything I do is seated in building with you, a trusting, safe and supportive relationship as the very foundation to our work together. I will work with you respectfully where we can celebrate your steps and changes however small or big they may be.
I have lived personal experience of ADHD and have done additional training in this area so I am equipped to help support others through issues including the transition of seeking diagnosis, the grief that can follow after an assessment, adapting to who we become once we are diagnosed and more.
As well many years of counselling experience I also have experience of working in different settings from management and office work right through to dealing with members of the public face to face. I am also a parent and know how difficult and also how wonderful this challenging role can be. I bring my experience of life with me and will be very much with you in your own exploration, I know what a challenge life can be!
My Work
Without wanting to be too jargonistic, for those of you that have been to therapy before or have more understanding and interest in the different models of counselling, I work predominantly in a Person Centred way whilst incorporating some of the experimental elements of Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
I work in a dynamic way that will change and grow depending on what you, as a client brings. I believe that as we are all completely individual not one size will fit all so we can work in a way to suit you. We will work with what is relevant to you and I will gently challenge so that together we can explore what might be the root of your troubles, what you would like to change or what your needs might be.
When we lose sight of our needs in life we can feel that we are losing our way, I will help you to re-discover your own true needs, especially as these often change with age, circumstances and life events.
For those that need to work with more specific goal's I will use my friendly, relational approach and will help you to come up with realistic steps to make your overall goal so much more achievable. In addition to talking therapy I often use more creative materials such as crayons, pens or objects to help you to explore your concerns in more non-verbal ways if this is what is required.
I work both online using the Zoom platform and face to face, this enables me to work with clients from all over the UK and to make counselling and supervision more accessible and easier to fit in with day to to day life for clients. I also offer counselling and supervision from my bright, light sun room at my home in Exeter, Devon.
Supervision
I am delighted to offer professional Supervision for therapists. During the last 13 years in private practice I have grown to fully love and appreciate my supervision. I have enjoyed using this time to expand on my client work, to learn more about myself and to challenge my ideas around building a practice. Supervision has been a window into so much for me and I know that it has been an integral part of my development not only as a counsellor, but also personally.
I know how important getting the right supervisor is so please take a look at my website for more lots more information and please feel free to ask any questions. I offer a free half an hour, no obligation meeting so you can come and meet me and see if I am the supervisor for you! You can find my supervision details at www.beckywhittakercounselling.co.uk/supervision
