About me

Hi I'm Paula, thank you for taking the time to read my profile. Looking for a counsellor can be a daunting experience and finding the right counsellor for you is a very important decision. One of the most important parts is finding a counsellor you 'click' with. My approach to therapy is to be a calm, compassionate presence, down to earth but also practical. We often want practical tools and knowledge to help make changes or face life's ups and downs. I aim to help you learn about yourself, process how you feel, cope better and find new ways to move forward.

As a trauma counsellor I have worked with adults on a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, intimacy, self-esteem, self-confidence, stress, anger, loss and more. My approach is tailored to your needs as we explore together what the barriers are to you reaching your goals and of living a life with more peace and contentment.

Coming to therapy is a courageous step, but it doesn't only have to be at times of crisis. You may want support to understand yourself and others better, help managing anxiety, have faced a recent difficult issue, or be curious about how you respond to situations in your life. I welcome you to reach out and we can discuss your hopes for having counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

MSc Integrative Counselling - passed with distinction

BSc (Hons) in Sociology

EFT (Tapping) level 1 & 2

EFT Tapping (also known as Emotional Freedom Techniques or simply "EFT") combines elements of cognitive therapy, exposure techniques, and stimulation of acupressure points. Typically, you focus on a specific issue like anxiety, a traumatic memory, pain in your body, or a craving while gently tapping on a sequence of points on your face and upper body with your fingertips. This process is usually accompanied by verbal statements that acknowledge the problem and promote self-acceptance. The core idea is that this combination helps send calming signals to your brain and body, rapidly reducing emotional and physical distress. After just a few rounds of tapping, people often report feeling lighter and calmer and able to breathe more easily – almost as if they now have more space inside.

I regularly undertake continuous professional development in a range of subjects and modalities.

I have worked for rape and sexual abuse charities working with adults and I have experience working at MIND. I have also supported care leavers and young people navigating their next steps.

I hold professional insurance, enhanced DBS and registration with the ICO (Information Commissioners Office).
