About me
I am a trained MBACP counsellor who specialises in both individual and couples counselling.
I have trained using techniques from many different kinds of counselling and psychotherapy. I am confident that, together, we will find a way to understand your problems that feels manageable for you. Whatever you bring to our first meeting is the right place for you to start and we can work from there. My specialisms include anxiety, depression, addiction, living autism and ADHD, trauma and bereavement.
Many clients report that just coming to their first appointment and knowing they’ve embarked on a journey to feeling better gives them relief and new hope.
As a Couples counsellor, in my experience, couples want to know they have each other’s back, and couples who come in often feel like that’s missing - that they feel like they may have lost something, and they can’t lean on or count on each other. This causes them distress, their defences come into play and they get stuck in an exhausting negative repeating pattern of communication. If that sounds like it resonates with you, that’s what we can work on together. We’ll figure out those patterns, where they are coming from, and how to change them.
Training, qualifications & experience
COSCA accredited Diploma in Pluralistic Counselling & Psychotherapy. I also have completed specialist training in many areas including trauma, couples counselling, bereavement and addiction.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I am available for both face-to-face counselling from Forres Counselling in Moray and nationwide for online / telephone counselling.
I'm a pluralistic counsellor, which means I am trained in many different techniques. Everyone is unique and we will work together to find the right fit for you.
I run a private practice with my wife Anna, who is also a qualified MBACP Counsellor. Having been together for over 30 years, we believe that our training along with our own lived experience, gives us a unique approach to counselling, particularly in our (separate!) work with couples.
