About me

Hi, I'm Neil and I understand how difficult it can be looking for a counsellor.

The choice can feel overwhelming, and just reaching out to contact someone can involve overcoming a huge amount of anxiety, with no guarantee you'll 'click' with that person.

That's why I offer a free, 15-minute phone consultation, giving you an opportunity to see if you feel we might work well together before you book your first session.

During this no-obligation chat we can also explore how counselling could help you.

~ Is counselling right for me? ~

Life can sometimes feel difficult, stressful and overwhelming.  Many of us struggle with relationships, responsibilities and the pressures of balancing our work and home lives.

Sometimes you may feel anxious or depressed without understanding the reason why, or have experienced an event that you're struggling to work through.

Maybe you just feel flat or unmotivated, or perhaps you're finding life hard to face after losing someone close to you.

~ How I can help ~

Counselling can provide you with a safe space unlike any other, in which you can explore what's going on for you.

Talking about how you feel with someone who will listen - someone who will really hear what you're saying - can make all the difference in changing things for the better.

I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and change, and my aim is to help you tap into your own inner resources to manage the challenges you're facing.

I have experience working with a range of issues, including anxiety, depression and bereavement.

I'm here to help you better understand your thoughts and feelings, and to support you as you work through any difficulties you may be facing.

During our sessions the focus is always going to be on you, and what you need from our time together.

So if you're looking for a counsellor who will offer you a warm, non-judgmental space to explore your concerns, I invite you to get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

~ Training & work experience ~

I am a qualified counsellor living in Wrexham, North Wales, and I studied locally at Wrexham Glyndwr University.

I am a current member of both the BACP and NCPS and my practice follows their ethical and professional principles.

For over a decade I specialised in resolving workplace disputes and was engaged as a link between employers and employees.  This experience allowed me to develop a wealth of insight and understanding around different lifestyles and perspectives.

Since 2020 I dedicated my time to the third sector, supporting individuals from challenging backgrounds to overcome the obstacles they face in their lives.

~ Life experience ~

Although I don't allow the difficult chapters I have been through in my own life-story define who I am as an individual, I do acknowledge that they taught me a lot about the resilience and strength of character I possess.

In hindsight I am grateful for having experienced those testing times, as the personal development I undertook through my own counselling journey now allows me to offer a deeper level of support to my clients.

This first-hand experience of receiving counselling also means I have a very real understanding of what it's like searching for a counsellor, and how much courage it takes to reach out.

By just visiting this site you've taken a huge step towards acknowledging that you want to make changes happen in your life and, when you're ready, I'm here to help you take the next step.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
