About me

Hi, I’m Nazia a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) offering a safe, compassionate space to explore the challenges that hold you back.

Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling anxious, low in mood, or stuck in unhelpful cycles of thinking and behaviour. Together, we use practical CBT tools to understand what’s happening beneath the surface and to build real, lasting change one step at a time.

My approach is warm, structured and collaborative. Each session is tailored to your goals, helping you gain insight, develop coping skills and move towards the life you want. I focus on empowering you to manage your own wellbeing, not just during therapy but long after it ends.

I’ve supported clients with:

  • Anxiety, panic and worry
  • Low mood and depression
  • Relationship or family difficulties
  • Low self-esteem and confidence
  • Work stress and life transitions
  • Cultural or faith-based pressures

Alongside CBT, I integrate compassion-focused and values-based techniques, drawing on my experience of working with people from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds. This allows clients to explore both psychological and emotional wellbeing in a way that feels respectful and authentic.

I offer sessions face to face, online and by phone, making therapy accessible and flexible wherever you are in the UK.

If you’d like to see whether we might work well together, please get in touch for a free 15-20 minute phone/video consultation. You’re welcome to share what you’re looking for, ask questions, and decide whether CBT feels right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) trained to SCQF Level 11 (Postgraduate Diploma in CBT & Groupwork) through ACT Counselling Services and Training, and hold a COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills from the University of Strathclyde.

With over 13 years’ experience supporting individuals across community, university, and private settings, I have worked with adults, young people, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, and work-related stress.

I currently work as an Associate Therapist with Illuminated Thinking, alongside running my own private practice, Therapy with Nazia Khan Ltd. I also work within a few charities where I offer one to one sessions as-well as deliver mental wellbeing workshops.
I provide therapy through major medical insurers such as Vitality Health and WPA.

Alongside the common anxiety depression issues I am also trauma-informed and culturally responsive, and I am fluent in English, Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi, offering therapy in the language that feels most comfortable for clients.

I am a registered member of the BACP. I hold Balens Professional Indemnity & Public Liability Insurance, an active PVG membership, and ICO registration for GDPR compliance.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I aim to create a calm, supportive space where people can talk openly and start to make sense of what’s been difficult. My approach is straightforward and collaborative - we work together to understand what’s going on and find practical ways forward.

I draw on CBT tools alongside elements of compassion-focused and values-based work, always adapting sessions to what feels most helpful for you.

I’m multilingual and offer therapy in English, Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi, which can make it easier for clients to express themselves in a way that feels natural.

My work is grounded in cultural awareness, respect, and an understanding that each person’s journey is unique.

If you’d like to talk things through before starting, I offer a brief introductory call to see if we’re a good fit.
