About me

Inclusive Psychotherapy and Counselling for Young People and Adults, LGBTQ+ and Neurodivergent People | Miles, West Bridgford, Nottingham

Hello, I’m Miles, a psychotherapist and counsellor based in West Bridgford, Nottingham. I offer long-term, weekly therapy and counselling for young people aged 13 and over and adults, with a particular experience in supporting neurodivergent people, LGBTQ+, queer people, trans people, and young people navigating identity, emotions and friendships/ relationships.

Therapy for Young People Aged 13 and Over

Being a young person involves navigating complicated feelings, relationships, identity, family expectations, school, friendships and the pressure to fit in. Sometimes it can be difficult to understand what you are feeling or to find someone you feel comfortable talking to. Making and keeping friends can be really hard.

I offer counselling and psychotherapy for teenagers who may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, loneliness, anger, bullying, family difficulties, trauma, bereavement, relationship concerns or challenges around identity and belonging.

You do not need to be in crisis or have a diagnosis to access therapy with me. You might feel different from other people, struggle to explain what is happening inside, feel overwhelmed by everyday life or simply want somewhere you can talk openly without worrying about being judged.

My approach is collaborative and creative, so alongside talking, we can explore feelings, thoughts and experiences through music, drawing, meditation and guided imagery. There is no expectation that you have to find the right words straight away.

I aim to offer young people a consistent, safe and accepting space where they can explore who they are, make sense of their experiences and develop a better understanding of themselves. When we understand ourselves we can understand what we might want and need in our relationships.

Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy for ADHD, Autism and Neurodivergent People

I am autistic and ADHD myself, so I welcome neurodivergent people into my therapy space, including those with ADHD, autism and other forms of neurodivergence, whether formally diagnosed, self-identifying or currently questioning.

Being neurodivergent can shape how you experience emotions, relationships, work, school, communication and sensory environments. You may feel misunderstood, struggle with expectations placed on you by others, experience overwhelm or find that you have spent years trying to fit into environments that do not work for you. Masking is exhausting!

You might be exploring whether you are autistic or have ADHD, adjusting to a recent diagnosis, navigating masking, or trying to understand why certain experiences feel more difficult for you than they seem to for other people.

Therapy can provide space to explore these experiences without treating your neurodivergence as something that needs to be changed. We can consider the impact of past experiences, relationships, trauma, shame, loneliness and social expectations, all while recognising your individual strengths, needs and unique ways of experiencing the world.

LGBTQ+, Queer & Trans Affirming Therapy

I offer inclusive psychotherapy and counselling for LGBTQ+ people, including transgender, non-binary, gender-diverse, bisexual, gay, lesbian, queer, polyamorous and asexual people.

You might be exploring your gender identity or sexuality, making sense of your experiences, navigating relationships, or working through feelings about belonging, acceptance and identity. You may also be dealing with the effects of transphobia, homophobia, queerphobia, discrimination, rejection or feeling different from those around you.

You do not need to be questioning your identity or experiencing discrimination to benefit from LGBTQ+ affirming therapy; sometimes you simply want to speak with a therapist who understands that your identity is part of your life without assuming it explains everything about you.

As a queer and gender-non-conforming practitioner, I bring an awareness of the importance of being understood and accepted without having to justify who you are, and not being on the receiving end of insensitive and judgemental questions. I aim to offer a space where you can explore your experiences openly, without judgement, pressure or assumptions about your identity, relationships, or any other part of you that you want to share with me.

Trauma Informed Therapy and Childhood Experiences

Our experiences, particularly those involving relationships, safety, belonging and how others have treated us, can continue to affect how we feel about ourselves in adulthood. Sometimes we end up carrying a feeling, experience, belief or part of our selves for a long time, even when we want to put it down.

I work with people who have experienced childhood trauma, sexual abuse, rape, incest, bullying, rejection, emotional neglect and other difficult or overwhelming experiences. These experiences can affect our senes of self, self-esteem, emotional regulation, trust, relationships, identity and the ability to feel safe with others. You might relate to experiences of dissociation, isolation or feelings of detachment- you are not broken or alone in feeling this.

For some neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ people, the impact of trauma can be compounded by years of masking, exclusion and misunderstanding.

You do not have to discuss painful experiences before you feel ready, we can talk around something, or talk about an “it”.It’s very important to me that we work at your pace, taking our time to build a relationship that you feel comfortable in. You remain at the centre of decisions about what we discuss and how we approach it, it’s your therapy and I want you to feel that.

Longterm Therapy at Your Pace

I specialise in long-term, weekly psychotherapy and counselling. This offers the opportunity to build a consistent therapeutic relationship and explore experiences in greater depth over time.

You might want support with anxiety, depression, loneliness, anger, emotional regulation, relationships, emotional or binge eating, OCD, bereavement, chronic illness, sexuality, pornography use or difficulties understanding and expressing your feelings.

Equally, you might not know exactly what is bothering you. Perhaps life feels stuck, something does not feel right, or you find yourself struggling with feelings, thoughts, memories or patterns you do not fully understand.

We can begin wherever you are, I have no expectation that you should already have the words or understanding of your feelings- sometimes we just know something doesn’t feel right. You do not need a diagnosis, a clear explanation or a specific goal to start therapy.

I believe we all have the capacity to develop our understanding of ourselves, find new ways of expressing and understanding our emotions, and build more fulfilling relationships with ourselves and others. Therapy is not about becoming someone different to meet other people's expectations, it can be an opportunity to understand yourself more deeply and discover ways of living that feel more like you.

A Creative, Inclusive and Accepting Space

My approach is trauma informed, neurodiversity affirming, queer affirming and informed by the effects of patriarchy, transphobia and queerphobia.

I recognise that our difficulties do not exist in isolation. Our relationships, families, communities and wider social environments can all shape our experiences and how we see ourselves.

You do not need to perform, mask, explain everything perfectly or arrive knowing what to say. There is room for uncertainty, difficult feelings, silence, curiosity, humour and change.

All identities, experiences and ways of being are welcome in my therapy space.

The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice.
