About me

Hello, I’m Michelle. I am a qualified and experienced therapist. I will listen deeply to you and be with you exactly as you are. I will offer you invitations and draw on approaches to help you facilitate the change and growth you seek.

Life can be hard sometimes. Change and healing happens through relationship and for me this is the heart of therapy. In this process we become aware of who we are, of how we respond and what happened in our lives that has shaped these responses. We discover what choices we want to make now to inform our relationships and our future.

It’s really understandable to feel daunted embarking on this process of finding a therapist. There are things to consider: the commitment; budgeting; finding the right person for you. It’s important to work with someone you feel you can be open with, where trust can be built.

I will encourage you to connect with what is going on in your body, heart, soul and spirit and I will support you to connect to your feelings and desires. This includes challenging you, gently, and helping to set the pace for your process. All feelings are welcome. You may feel sad, angry or scared. We may also laugh together. I will be alongside you and hold a container for you and your material. I will guide you with care towards the places which feel least familiar, as it is the places we do not want to go that usually hold the most potency for change.

As children we learn intelligent ways to take care of ourselves in response to our environments. Some of us learnt to manage our feelings by pushing them down (“over” regulation) and may now be looking for support to slowly feel our feelings, to gently let the fizz out of the bottle. Others of us were flooded with feelings, potentially feeling constantly overwhelmed (“under” regulation) and may now be seeking support to validate, contain, hold and titrate the intensity of our experience. Some of us move between these experiences and more and all people can benefit from therapy.

How I work:

I work relationally and integratively, which means I draw from several therapeutic modalities whilst tending to the relationship between us as the central place of healing.

I’m following you, supporting you to become aware of the resources that are already within you (person-centred approach). We can explore what has happened in your past that is impacting the present (psychodynamic approach). I may incorporate a soul-based orientation to deepen your connectedness with life and honour the depth of who you are (transpersonal approach). We can explore the different parts of your psyche (Internal Family Systems). I am trauma informed and keep close attention to the sensations and feelings in your body. I can also work with movement, somatic inquiry and the creative arts (dance movement psychotherapy).

I am dedicated to matters of power, privilege and marginalisation. I have eighteen years experience working with marginalised groups including people with disabilities, women, those escaping domestic violence, children in alternative educational provisions, third sector therapeutic organisations, drug and alcohol services, and people seeking asylum and refugee status including those imprisoned in immigration detention centres.

I bring an anti-oppressive and inclusive lens including awareness of cultural imperialism, racialisation, class, gender, LGBTQIA+ identities, disability, neuro-diversity, religion, age and other forms of discrimination. I hold the uniqueness of your individual experience alongside a recognition of your place in the collective. The personal is political and the challenges you may be meeting could well be directly connected to systemic oppression. As a white practitioner I am committed to examining and disrupting the privilege of white supremacy which I benefit from.

Practicals:

We work together for as long as you need and this is reviewed regularly with the therapist. Sessions are weekly and an hour long offered online and in person. I also work outdoors inviting the natural world in to support the work.

Clients have described me as calm, compassionate and insightful. They have found the work with me to be transformative. The best way to know if I’m the right person for you is for us to meet. I offer a free half hour session in which we can explore if working together will be right for you.

For clients based in mid-Wales I offer online and in person sessions.

For clients based in London or elsewhere I offer online sessions.
