About me

My name is Maria and I am an accredited  MBACP (Accred). Psychotherapist. I am currently working towards completing the Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.

I provide an empathic, non-judgemental space where the clients can open up and feel seen and heard for who they truly are. The therapeutic sessions will be tailored to meet their unique needs, based on a shared understanding of their concerns and problems. We will work collaboratively and I can help them live more fully, drawing from their internal resources and abilities.

As an existential- integrative therapist, I am drawing on the approaches that best suit the issues the clients bring into the therapy room. I offer both short-term and long term therapy for adults. In existential therapy, emotional and psychological difficulties are viewed as inner conflict caused by an individual's confrontation with the givens of existence. Rather than delve into the past, the existential approach looks at the here and now, exploring the human condition as a whole and what it means for an individual.

Whilst focusing on the existential approach, I can also work in an integrative approach, which means that I draw on the approaches that best suit the issues the clients bring in to the room.

Therefore, I can work with other various psychological approaches including Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy. I have a special interest in working with the Transactional analysis model, which can help clients gain insight into their relational patterns and how these influence their relationships with others. My approach as a whole,is tailored to the individual client.

I have a particular clinical interest in supporting clients who have experienced conflict in the workplace, workplace bullying, as well as those struggling with work-related stress or burnout. Alongside workplace-related difficulties, I also support individuals experiencing a range of issues, including anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, bereavement, life transitions, expatriate or cultural adjustment stress.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been working in the mental health field since 2009 and have gained experience across a range of clinical and organisational settings. My professional experience includes working within NHS Primary Care psychological services (IAPT), Employee Assistance Programmes supporting professionals within corporate environments, charitable organisations, and private practice, as well as international settings in both the UK and Greece.

Through my work within corporate environments and Employee Assistance Programmes, I have supported many individuals experiencing workplace stress, burnout, workplace bullying and challenging professional environments. I have also delivered trauma-informed therapeutic support and wellbeing groups within corporate settings.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
