Deciding to see a counsellor can be a daunting first step. It is the time you are ready to go on a journey of self-discovery, and understand the issues you are facing.
Many clients admit that they feel weak at thought of coming to counselling, my immediate response is 'it takes a profound amount of courage to admit there is a problem and even more to do something about it'.
I am an experienced counsellor, and in the last 6 years I have worked with a variety of different issues which are all listed in the below display lists.
I pride myself on continues learning to stay on top of all current issues and theories, which means that I am ready to help anyone who gets in touch. My further education allows me to demonstrate and make use of the counselling theories in helping you understand your behaviour and the choices you are making, some of which you may be unaware of and which may be amplifying the issues you are facing.
I work with each client in an individual way, by finding out what their needs are and how we can work together. At the start of the therapy process I start by finding out your goals and realistic ways of achieving them. Some clients do not have specific goals and this is okay to.
I work using creative tools within the counselling process, I will only use this if it will help the client, and will always discuss this with them first. My aim within counselling is to be able to give clients techniques that they can keep with them forever, and hope to build up techniques throughout the process, to help with other problems that may come up for the client throughout their lives.
I currently offer face to face, telephone and Skype counselling. I firmly believe that counselling can help give a new awareness with problems in life you are facing. At times life can be hard, we find ourselves having to put up with problems we never thought would affect us, things out of our control i.e. Trauma, Bereavement, Anxiety, Stress, Depression to name but a few.
You are not alone, you are not a failure, and counselling could help. Counselling gives you the opportunity to talk through your problems in a safe non judgement environment, where you will be able to embark on a journey of self-discovery, which will allow you to understand yourself better, explore destructive patterns of behaviour, help you look at the alternative options and give you awareness of different choices you could make.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a individual member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), and currently hold a Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, I have accumulated a number add on CPD experience to add to that. I also hold a degree in Degree in Education and Training, and teach and write my own courses. At present I'm coming towards the end of a supervision course to be a supervisor.
I strongly believe in furthering my education in line with current policies within the counselling field and becoming an even more dynamic counsellor.

I'm the owner and therapist of Next Step Counselling services which started out around six years ago and continues to grow from strength to strength (which we are super excited about). We are a friendly down to earth bunch and our specialist team all bring their own unique traits and expertise.
As cheesy as its sounds you really are at the centre of what we do, everything is tailored, from late and flexible appointments, 6 days a week working, and down to our online booking system. All therapy is confidential, professional and is provided in a safe and calm place.
Those of you that are unsure of therapy, we will try our upmost to put you at ease. We are very much in the belief that if you broke your leg, would you not go to the doctors to heal your leg? Your mental health works exactly the same. There are also preventative measures before things get a little too much. We can put in place ways measuring of helping things before they happen.
Our Monkseaton Therapy room is ideally located with plenty free parking directly opposite and the metro station within a five minute walk.
We have also just opened a new therapy service in Low Fell, free parking and is on an excellent bus link.
We have a number of affiliated counsellors who work with us that bring an abundance of experience on board too.
Have a look around our website for more information or to book. We are pretty quick at getting back to you, but please allow a max of 24 hours to respond.
