Linda O'Hern, MSc, UKCP Reg, Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor and Trainer
Hello my name is Linda
I am an experienced, MSc qualified, UKCP registered psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer.
As a therapist I believe relationship is key to successful therapy because it allows trust, respect and mutuality to build which results in having an open, safe space in which to work.
Sometimes having the opportunity to talk with someone impartial and independent is essential; friends, family or colleagues frequently offer fantastic support however they often have an investment of some sort in any outcomes you desire so are unable to offer a totally unbiased perspective and specialist support if you are feeling stuck in a painful place.
So, if you are feeling anxious, confused or in an unhappy place which seems never ending, lonely and difficult to manage or self doubt, miserableness, questioning and a sense of going around in circles are occurring come along and meet me for an initial assessment.
This will give us the opportunity to decide whether we want to start working together to explore unconscious processes that are upsetting you and creating unnecessary issues with regards to moving forward to get your life back on track.
One of the key things with regard to counselling and psychotherapy is finding the right therapist for you, one you like and trust that is willing to work openly with you so you can feel free to explore new ways of being.
Remember it is also important to ensure your therapist is experienced, skilled, well qualified and registered with a professional body. Unfortunately, because our profession is currently unregulated you do need to be aware of unscrupulous practitioners so please checkout who you are planning to work with and consider selecting someone from a voluntary professional body register; two of the better known registers are held by UKCP or BACP.
What type of therapy I use:
I am a Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (PTSTA), I use psychotherapy to help you understand your history so you can become more aware of unconscious processes that might be holding you back from experiencing high quality relationships, meeting career aspirations, improving your health and having a generally happier life experience.
Training, qualifications & experience
Training and Experience:
I am a qualified Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Mediator, Trainer and Clinical Supervisor.
I have been working with clients since 2005 and have a wide level of experience in a range of services. I am an active participant in Continuing Professional Development.
I work in private practice as well as running Affordable Therapy Concepts Limited (ATC) a company which supports practitioners to build and develop their practices. It as a community interest ethos which means everyone involved is seeking ways of opening up opportunities to provide therapy differently and in settings which are affordable and accessible to everyone. Most of our Practitioners also offer a limited number of concessions. See http://www.affordabletherapyconcepts.co.uk for further details.
My private practice clients come through a wide range of referral organisations as well as self-referral. Whilst I was building my private practice I needed to find different ways in which to support myself so I provided mediation services for Lincolnshire Counselling and Mediation Service this meant I worked on contracts with Lincolnshire Police, Children and Adult Social Services, County and District Councils, Housing Associations and local employers. Additionally, I worked as a Counselling Lecturer at Lincoln College and as a Mentor with ClearLinks for University students who experience mental health issues.
I focus on clinical work, clinical supervision and training through private practice. In addition, I work as a part time tutor on the MSc Integrative programme at the Sherwood Institute in Nottingham.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
UK Council for Psychotherapy
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
