Hi, I’m Laura. Thank you for taking the time to view my profile.
With my warm, empathetic, friendly and down to earth nature my aim is to provide you with a safe, compassionate and supportive space to talk. You are the expert on your own life and I can help facilitate healing, growth and clarity. The human experience can feel incredibly lonely, the feeling of being seen, heard and understood can be incredibly powerful.
You may look like you are coping on the outside while internally feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, stuck, or not quite good enough. Perhaps you overthink, describe yourself as a 'people pleaser', lose yourself in relationships, or feel unsure of who you are underneath everyone else's expectations.
Do you feel disconnected with your authentic self? Life can often leave us shaped by the expectations, judgements or actions of others, pulling us away from who we truly are. Together, we can work to break free from those influences, heal the wounds of your inner child, and understand how past experiences continue to impact your present life.
Sometimes in life we can feel stuck for a number of reasons, perhaps we are managing overwhelm, anxiety, shame, are low or depressed, or concerned that we are repeating the same patterns over and over again. Perhaps we feel alone with our emotions and feel that having someone impartial to talk them through with and help us make sense of them will be helpful. Sometimes we need a little help to realise our full potential, to heal, to grow. As someone who has dealt with many challenges that life can deal, I am a strong advocate of the power of healing through a therapeutic alliance.
I am Neurodivergent informed and warmly welcome the LGBTQ community.
How I Work
Your therapy journey will be a unique reflection of you and your needs. I can accommodate both short and long term therapy work.
We work at a pace that suits you - Building a safe foundation - Safely exploring experiences or memories - Becoming curious of behaviour patterns and coping skills - exploring relationships and interactions with others - gaining clearer understandings of self - what it may be helpful to heal/strengthen/let go of.
I work from an integrated approach which means I will carefully tailor my sessions to the needs of the individual. Experience shows me that there is no one size fits all modality. I can offer creative exploration and homework tasks should it suit.
(Integrative includes psychodynamic, person centred and CBT)
First Session (Introductory Session)
There is zero expectation of baring your soul. It can be hard to know where to start. The initial session is very much a getting to know one another session, including an overview of what has brought you to seeking therapy, goals you have (its okay if you are not sure right now), and how we might move forward collaboratively. At the end of the session we can discuss if we would like to go forward together, or you are more than welcome to come back to me on this after you have had time to digest. Successful therapy very much relies on a strong working alliance/relationship, so a good ('enough') fit is important.
