About me

I offer online talking therapy and music psychotherapy to adults and young people who may be feeling overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or uncertain about how to move forward.

You may be experiencing anxiety, loss, relationship difficulties, questions around identity or belonging, the effects of difficult past experiences, or a sense that familiar ways of coping are no longer helping. You may understand what is troubling you but still find it difficult to change, or you may simply know that something does not feel right.

Therapy offers a confidential space in which these experiences can be approached with professionalism, care and curiosity. Rather than rushing towards solutions, we can begin to understand what may sit beneath your feelings, relationships and patterns of coping, including the ways in which earlier experiences continue to shape the present.

My approach is grounded in compassion, professionalism, care and curiosity. I work primarily from psychodynamic and person-centred perspectives, while drawing on elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mentalisation-based thinking and attachment-informed practice where these are clinically appropriate and responsive to your individual needs. I will not expect you to disclose more than feels manageable or follow a predetermined process. We will work at a pace that respects both what has brought you to therapy and what you may need in order to feel safe enough to explore it.

For some people, words alone do not fully capture what they are experiencing. Music psychotherapy can offer another way of exploring emotions, memories and relationships. Depending on your needs, music may become part of the therapeutic process through clinically informed musical experiences such as improvisation, receptive music experiences, songwriting, therapeutic listening or other evidence-informed music psychotherapy interventions. These are used as therapeutic tools to help explore emotional experiences, deepen self-understanding, strengthen emotional regulation, and support the processing and integration of complex emotional experiences, opening possibilities for new and more authentic ways of understanding and relating to oneself and others. No previous musical experience is required, and there is never any expectation to use music if it does not feel right for you.

I have experience supporting people affected by trauma, bereavement, relationship and family difficulties, migration and displacement, including people from immigrant and refugee backgrounds, chronic health conditions, addiction, discrimination, and questions relating to sexuality, identity and spirituality. I have worked across NHS, charitable, community and specialist settings in the UK and internationally.

Alongside therapy, I offer reflective supervision to therapists and students.

Beginning therapy can feel uncertain, particularly when you are already carrying a great deal. I offer a free 30-minute online consultation so that we can speak about what has brought you here, consider what you hope therapy might offer, and see whether working together feels right.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an HCPC-registered Music Psychotherapist with more than ten years of experience working and volunteering therapeutically with children, adults and professionals.

I hold an MSc in Music Psychotherapy, with clinical training in psychodynamic and person-centred practice, and a qualification in CBT-applied counselling practice through the Scottish Qualifications Authority. I also hold an integrated Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology.

My clinical experience includes work within NHS services, children’s oncology, shelters, charities and community organisations. I have undertaken research and university teaching relating to music psychotherapy, the wider arts therapies, trauma, culture and therapeutic practice, and I currently contribute to the education of developing practitioners as a university lecturer.

My work is supported by regular clinical supervision, continuing professional development, and the professional and ethical standards of the Health and Care Professions Council.
