About me

Do you know that something doesn’t feel right, without necessarily knowing what needs to change.

Perhaps you’re constantly overthinking, feeling anxious or overwhelmed, struggling to switch off, or finding yourself putting everyone else’s needs before your own. You might feel emotionally exhausted, disconnected from yourself, or notice that experiences from your past are still affecting how you feel, think or respond today.

Or perhaps life simply feels harder than it used to.

Hello, I’m Jess, an accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. I offer counselling both face-to-face and online.

I’ve worked within mental health for over 15 years, supporting adults and young people through a wide range of experiences. One of the things this has taught me is that there is rarely a one-size-fits-all approach to emotional wellbeing.

How I work

My approach is integrative, which means I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on you, what you bring to therapy and what you would like to achieve.

Sometimes you may need space simply to talk and be heard. At other times, we might explore patterns, relationships, past experiences or the way you respond to certain situations. We may also look at practical strategies that can help you manage what you are experiencing day-to-day.

I commonly support people experiencing:

• Anxiety, worry and overthinking
• Stress and burnout
• Trauma and PTSD
• Low mood
• Low confidence and self-esteem
• Emotional overwhelm
• Relationship difficulties
• Difficult or painful past experiences
• Life changes and feeling lost or stuck

I have additional training in trauma-informed practice and PTSD, including the Rewind Technique developed by Dr David Muss.

Alongside counselling, I offer Hypnotherapy and Rewind Trauma Therapy as separate services within my private practice for clients specifically looking for these approaches.

What can you expect from me?

I’m not here to judge you or tell you how you should live your life.

Therapy with me is collaborative. My role is to listen, ask questions, gently explore things with you and help you develop a better understanding of yourself, your experiences and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

We work at a pace that feels manageable for you.

And while therapy can involve talking about difficult things, it doesn’t have to feel clinical or intimidating. Building a relationship where you feel comfortable enough to be yourself is an important part of the work.

Taking the first step

Finding a counsellor can feel surprisingly difficult. You can read qualifications and profiles, but ultimately you need to feel that you could actually sit in a room with that person and talk.

That’s why I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation before you decide whether you’d like to book.

It’s simply an opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling, ask me any questions and get a sense of whether we might work well together.

I offer face-to-face counselling from my practice in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, as well as online sessions.

If something you’ve read here resonates with you, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
