About me

Firstly, thank you for reading my profile! My personal approach to counselling has been shaped by intensive training, deep personal work as a client in therapy and twenty years of experience in the service industry which I mention because as a result, I bring a down to earth practical slant to my work alongside a detailed understanding of psychological approaches underpinned by emotional support and understanding which is crucial when you are feeling vulnerable and exposed.

I approach therapy with a mixture of practical here and now discussion designed to help you feel more comfortable in your skin in relationship and in the world, and a deeper examination of the roots, in particular systemic family/ childhood trauma if you choose to explore at depth. It is important to note that it is always your choice.

Therapy feels good and satisfying but the process can also be murky, confusing, bumpy, and frustrating at times which is why it is my job to create an environment that offers safety, consistency, and strong emotional support with as much or as little guidance and practical input from me depending on your needs.

Finding a counsellor you feel comfortable with is important which is why I offer a free full length session to help you get a feel for who I am and how I work so that you can make an informed decision.

A little about me and my journey into the world of therapy;

I started training as a counsellor six years ago and I have been working with clients for three years in a drug and alcohol recovery centre, and now private practice.

I had the good fortune to train under Paul Alexander at Strode College, a learning experience like no other and I have emerged from my diploma (regulated by the CPCAB) having embedded a strong academic foundation alongside a deep relational understanding of myself and my fellow human beings.

These have been the most transformative years of my life and I have witnessed the power of therapy assist friends, colleagues and clients. I don't have a magic wand and I cannot make problems disappear, I can't dissolve tough emotions but I can offer support, guidance, and a path to a more peaceful less burdened existence.

Studying close to Glastonbury has also helped me develop a new found respect for and interest in the spiritual realms, of the unseen elements which may appear in our work.

I hope this introduction has been helpful, please feel free to call email or text me if you have any further questions or would like to book in an assessment, I look forward to hearing from you!

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
