About me
I am a qualified and registered Clinical Psychologist specialising in trauma and PTSD, persistent anxiety, anger and other mood difficulties, and issues such as low self-esteem.
I have expertise in therapies for trauma, both for single events, such as road traffic accidents, and complex and chronic experiences such as childhood maltreatment and abuse. I am an accredited EMDR practitioner and I can provide a range of techniques to target flashbacks, extreme emotional distress, reliving and unpleasant physical sensations.
I also specialise in persistent anxiety and mood difficulties, such as recurrent depression, chronic anxiety, anger and changeable mood and low self-esteem. At a symptom level, I can provide techniques and skills aimed at tackling intrusive and problematic thoughts, intense mood changes and dysregulation, and problematic physiological sensations. Additionally, the therapy that I provide aims to target the the underlying causes of these difficulties. This may include addressing past trauma, attachment difficulties, relationship difficulties and life stressors. This can additional help feeling stuck, alone, and chronic emptiness.
Within both my NHS experience and private practice, I have worked extensively with people from disadvantaged backgrounds and people who have experienced various types of adversity. These life circumstances along with racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination are thoughtfully and empathically approached through my therapeutic approach.
A central principle of my approach is the value I place on the therapeutic relationship by providing a compassionate and sensitive approach. This is the basis for creating a safe and secure place for us to explore your life story, to create opportunities for meaningful change and to bring about a resolution to your difficulties.
