About me

I offer counselling to anyone over 16 for issues including anxiety, depression, loss, trauma and PTSD. Taking the first step to getting help can be hard, you have already started by reading this. We can work collaboratively to explore what is happening, develop awareness, get to know triggers and begin to regain control. I focus on building an understanding of the role of the body in understanding what is happening for us and also how to regulate ourselves with body-based techniques.

I am based in North Leeds. I offer an integrative approach. This includes person centred, gestalt and CBT therapies and a focus on the body's role in illness and treatment which enable me to work with the whole self. The way I work is integrated to suit your individual need.

I currently work at the Women's Counselling and Therapy Service, Leeds. Here I work long term with vulnerable women with severe to complex needs. I am also a Skills Tutor at Leeds Beckett University for the Counselling degree course, this entails supporting students in their counselling training.

I am experienced in working with anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss. I also have experience and training in working with trauma, complex trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD. Clients often need counselling when they have unprocessed experiences. Counselling can provide the space and strategies to allow processing to happen and to sensitively explore the impact on you and to build on ways to manage how you are feeling.

I integrate theories to make my service bespoke to your needs and work with all aspects of the individual to provide insight into root causes of psychological distress and/or barriers preventing you from living your life the way you prefer. These theories begin with a humanistic base and then include working creatively to tailor to individual need, solution-focussed approach, or offering a psychodynamic view i.e., by looking at attachment theory (how our current lives may be impacted by our initial relationships). I work with anyone aged 16 and over, with flexibility on the length of sessions depending on how in depth you are able to go.

My previous counselling experience has been from: Cruse Bereavement (Leeds) and GIPSIL (Leeds), a Children and Young Peoples counselling service. Here they provide longer term therapy for young people with a variety of issues, from mental health, employment, housing, family.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
