About me

Hello! I am a Relationship Therapist dedicated to assisting couples of all gender identities and sexual orientations in navigating relationship challenges to attain a deeper level of intimacy.

My work is grounded in real-life and learned experiences. I provide a compassionate, safe, and non-judgmental space to resolve any relationship or sexual issues, enabling you to flourish in your life journey.

Examples of what one session can offer:

-  make clear an ongoing relationship or sexual issue,

- get to the bottom of long term problems,

- communication strategies for high level, intimate communication,

- bring to light hidden barriers in the relationship,

- draw you closer to foster bonds of high intimacy, or

- used to form the steps of an amicably separate with the least emotional upset or cost incurred.

- create understanding and a way forward after a crisis point, e.g. porn/sex issue in relationship, infidelity, erectile issues, intimacy, loss of identity.

I have a range of experiences and training in adult, child and couples counselling. I have a background in education so I highly value offering you the education around your relationship situation.

I have extensive training background in counselling, psychotherapy, psychosexual therapy, grief & loss, coaching and education.  Nothing has trained me more for my role than my experiences/wisdom gained from being a partner of a sex & porn addict which triggered all my childhood issues related to my adoption history.

One key learning gained is that all behaviour has a purpose (often safety) and a relationship has a function of finishing off childhood in some way. I have compassion for the challenges both men and women face in relationships.

I have expertise in:

~ couples counselling: communication, sex and intimacy issues, impact of childhood issues or unexpressed grief.

~ working with individuals with sexual trauma/issues, separating trauma from healthy sex, , sexual anxiety, sexual covert trauma (body or sexual shame/messages), communicating sexual needs and consent within their erotic landscape.

~ men's issues, inc: sex and porn addiction (compulsivity), grief & loss, emotional distress, relationship breakdown, sex issues.

~ partners, parents or professionals struggling to deal with and communicate issues related to sex, the use of pornography or historic sexual trauma.

I have worked with a wide range of issues within the NHS, at a local hospice and in my private practice which supports my work including:

anxiety, abuse, boundaries, crisis, rape/stealthing, depression, sadness, sexual and intimacy issues, infidelity, sexual & non sexual trauma, various relationship issues, porn and sex compulsivity, divorce, separation, menopause, grief & loss, child death, abandonment, family stress, health/gynaecological  problems, work stress, loneliness, spirituality, loss of identity and burnout.

How I Work

As a couple, it is important to know that I am working with your relationship not each individually. Some couples, not all, may have individual sessions to neutralise trauma and to develop an awareness of how their past experiences are influencing the relationship.

I use a purposeful mix of active listening, relevant psycho-education and proven interventions from psychotherapy, counselling and coaching.

I believe education offers transformation so that forms a key aspect of my approach. I adapt my style to meet your needs with empathy and compassion. I understanding that life can at times be very difficult and all behaviour has a valid reason.

I use my Therapist’s ears and eyes to help you become aware of hidden patterns and/or beliefs created from your past experiencing that is impacting your relationship.

I use my coaching expertise to highlight your growth points, inner strengths and resilience factors to reveal opportunities or personal skills that can be applied to your relationship growth.

I have extensive experiences working with children as a teacher and counsellor. I don't work with children now, I use this expertise to help you to understand how your childhood is impacting your relationship. It could be that aspects of your childhood are unfinished or unresolved.

The First Session

You will have read our working contract and have an understanding of the guidelines I work within and what to expect. I allow time for you to ask any questions you may have. I will go through the essential details to ensure we are working ethically and within the law.

I will listen carefully to your issue and agree upon a focus for the session. I will offer whatever interventions or psycho-education is specifically appropriate for you to gain the most out of our session. No session is ever the same!

At the end of the session, you will be more aware of how your past is influencing your relationship. You will have psycho-education that relates directly to you or your relationship and life tools to take away so you can take action to create the change you want in your life for yourself or your relationship.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
