About me

I am a children's and young person's therapist, having qualified in 2015. I use a range of skills and techniques, to help clients gain understanding about what might be troubling them and how they can then be helped. At the core of my work is to build a relationship of trust with the client so that difficult feelings/thoughts can be expressed and processed in a safe space.

We can then work together to build resilience to help with any future stresses. Where appropriate and with the client's agreement, I will bring in parents/carers to a session to enable further support for the client within the family setting.

Clients usually come for 4 sessions to check that they feel comfortable with me before committing to a weekly, 50 minute session.

For further information, clients/parents/carers are welcome to look at my profile on BACP or to contact me by telephone.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Counselling for Children and Young People from The Institute of Arts and Therapy (London). I worked as a Primary School teacher for 20 years prior to qualifying and as a Careers Advisor to adolescents

I have extensive voluntary experience with children and young people e.g. working in a women's refuge, giving talks to under 11's into school on behalf of the NSPCC regarding keeping safe, being a volunteer counsellor with the charity Place2Be.

I am currently a Community Ambassador for the young person's bereavement charity Winston's Wish.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
